I really want to master firelighting by friction, but I'm a little unsure about the materials to use, since I live in the city, in Florida... Next time I go out in the woods, what kind of wood should I look for? Also, what is the best material for cordage? Any info may help me master a skill of a lifetime!:)

I'm in Florida, too. I read dried yucca stalks are good but I haven't tried them. I would think any dry piece of oak, maple or sycamore would work. Sycamore is also good for making utensils.
