I sure wouldn't. The chemicals in the plastic will leach and the chlorine won't do you any good against them. I think a water purifier would be best in this situation.

Is there a better container to hold the water in while still leaving it in the car in the tx heat?
LIke a metal container of some sort or one of those nalgene water containers.

Just rotate the water. No need to leave it for months.

Water should'nt be stored in plastic bottles for extended amount of time, get metal or glass.
Water left in a car in a clear container, in the direct sunlight needs to do two things:
reach 160 degrees
stay that way for 30 minutes. That will kill all pathogens and make the water safe to drink. No chems needed.
As far as the container goes, clear plastic bottles are fine if you're at risk of dehydration.

Bottled water companies fill the bottles with water that has been heated to just below boiling then piped to the bottleing mechine and sealed in the bottles,
They are then treated with high intensity UV light.

If it sounds and feels like there is water in the can don't buy them the water is bad as the seal has leaked.
If it feel and sounds like there is a chunk of bread dough in the can the seal is still good.
I use to have to test them in the navy and we got rid of all the one that sounded like water.
I have yet to find any good cans at gun shows or surplus stores and i have tested hundreds that i have seen.

Water in a GLASS bottle is safe to drink, maybe even metal. Water in a plastic bottle that has heated up in the car is now toxic. Studies show the toxins that are released into the water are the same toxins found in breast cancer. I know a friend that has just been diagnosed with breast cancer and she has so many tumors that both breasts must be removed. She may not survive even if they do remove both breasts. She has told us that she did have a habit of drinking bottles that sat in the car in the heat after they cooled down. DONT DRINK IT!!!!!! I have no idea if purifying it would get rid of that toxin. I wouldnt take the chance.
The trunk is cooler, somewhat. Plus not exposed to direct sunlight.

When I was living in Louisiana, I just never left the house without water. I had some of those nalgene water bottles or occasionaly I would just bring my camelbak. I would fill it with ice and water and never left home without it in the summertime. It was insanely hot and humid there and carrying water with me was a must.
I think I saw water in those juice box type containers online somewhere.. would those be safe for the car?

I carry a case of Ozarka in my car at all times. I drink it and replace it as I go. Never lasts that long in the summer.

People smoke cigarettes obsessively and might get cancer...after 20+ years mostly.
Perhaps its not the safest thing, but its so unlikely that anyone could get breast cancer from this type of situation! Plus there are way too many variables to isolate "hot water" + plastic = "breast cancer"
Hell I've drank this type of water and smoked out of plastic several times years ago.. *bad idea* But I'm fit as a fiddler (not that this is any kind of proof..i'm just saying)
Its not the hot water that causes cancer. It is the toxins in the plastic bottle that are released when the water heats up. The toxins cause the cancer. Hell, plenty of people drink hot water, (even i do when trying to lose weight. add some lemon juice!) but drink hot water from a cup, not a plastic bottle!:thumb:This is highly suspect hypothesis.
