Anyone ever read any of Boston T Party's books?
I like them. Must reads some of them.
In one however, man he really trashes Gerber, Cold Steel and Buck knives.
Anyone know why?

Not quite so.
I wrote that I don't recommend production knives as one's primary
utility knife. For such, I recommended the Mad Dog ATAK.

There's nothing wrong with Gerber, Cold Steel and Buck--all good knives.
But, I prefer a handmade carbon steel blade for my only field knife.

btw, in the 2008 and 2009 printings of Boston's Gun Bible, I retracted
and apologized for an unkind treatment of Lynn C. Thompson and Cold Steel.
While I don't believe in his "sharpest and strongest knives! " claim, I didn't
have to be so rude about it. Lynn and I have made peace about it.
I've taken his Master Hunter to Africa twice so far, and it's been a very good
blade. The native skinners in camp also praised it.

Regarding the "money grubbing" accusation, writing is my profession.
I sell my work in the open market.
If that's "money grubbing" then the term applies to all entrepreneurs.

The FSW once had a membership one-time donation of $25, more for
symbolic purposes than monetary. That has been waived since Oct 2007.
The FSW no longer accepts no donations of any kind.
This was knowable, had S.James cared to have his facts straight.

As I am now a forum member, I stand on my right not to be flamed by
him further.

Sorry, Ken you may have the right not to be flamed but pointed criticism isn't against the rules. Especially on this board. You gotta be able STRONGLY defend your ground and opinions at all times, no matter how much you hate it.

Mad Dog ATAK...wow is that expensive! $800 - 1,000 a piece! I'm sure it's a great knife, but my SOG and Cold Steel blades are way cheaper and do essentially the same thing, and for that price I can have 10 to 15 knives for the price of one. Is a MD 10x better a knife than Cold Steel? Of course not.
Neither is a $1500 Schmidt & Bender 5x better than a $300 Leupold VX-III.

My point was always only this: if TSHTF and you're in the field with
only one utility knife, it might pay to have bought the very best.

Pejorvatives....... no theirs a $50 dollar word if I ever heard one!!! As far as the knife thing is concerned you might have paid for the very best, but murphy has other plans, and you can always lose or be "relieved" (read stolen or confiscated) of that $1000 wonder knife and wish you had several extras stashed about. That and you never know if that dollor is going to have to go even farther in having some hand outs to close family that were a little less prepared.

BTW, I have been there and have the T- shirt I bought one of TOPS knifes just to have it stolen from me. Theres $300 down the toilet!!!
