Nice typo Billings, Montana! Seriously though, a huge backpack is a lifesaver on the "extremely rare" event of a bear mauling.

I would probably strap my expedition pack to my chest and try not to dart. That way at least you have minimal protection of your stomach, chest and neck. Then, I would hope I could put 16 rounds into its neck as my last hurrah.
