Suggestions on body armour?

It's a lot to ask for, but if someone wanted
-lightweight
-stab protection
-small arms protection
and doesn't have the budget to shell out $20,000 for dragonskin (Don't we all wish we could..)? Thinkin' more along the lines of <$400

[class IIA would be nice, as would the option of adding rifle-plates]

Thanks for the ideas

Check ebay, there are a lot of used (not shot at) vests for sale, although I don't know if I would want to trust my life to a used vest.

Someone mentioned somewhere that dragonskin was rejected by the US because if they got shot at certain weak points, the bullets would go right through. They also mentioned that they don't hold up well in high heat conditions.

We went over this about a week ago, and im not going to type a huge answer like i did for that one. All i can say is that you couldnt PAY me to wear dragon skin, its not consistent, degrades in weather hotter than 100 degrees and is below government standard for bullets striking at angles less or greated than 90. ill say that again--- BELOW GOVERNMENT STANDARDS, i hope you all can appreciate that.

endstate... buy ceramic plates, untill they figure out how to milk goats and produce spider fabric its the best out there.

Arrows?

Anyone know if a stab-vest does any good against arrows?

A bullet vest would be worthless. Chainmaile is 50/50 at best. Silk you still take the hit but can clean it and remove the arrow without barbs. Even chest plate in the middle ages was so-so to a well aimed longbow. Wouldn't risk it with a compound bow over a 60lbs pull.

Would a Stab Vest do any better?

Not sure about stabbing?

Hey,
I don't know much about body armor, but who would be getting close enough to be stabbing you?
Anyway, I was able to pick up an interceptor vest at local army surplus just by asking what they guy had in the backroom.
Then I went to the most recent gun show and picked up the chest and back plate. I went with level 4 body armor since I had the $dough$.

Yesterday (28 Jul) I spent the day playing OpFor for the Security Forces at my base, and with an M9 pistol was able to take down teams of 4 by myself, who had M4 assault rifles, full tactical body armor and helmet, vests of equipment and training in tactical movement, all because I knew where I was and they didn't. The first to go in each team coming through my scenario in the shoot house was within a foot, easy knife range. Had that been a life of death situation instead of a training scenario, I could easily have used a knife on the first and his rifle on the rest. And Ive had 3 weeks tactical training, some martial arts here and there and a lot of movies to go on for all of my information on close combat. If someone wants to take you with a knife and you might not even know they're a threat, they can get close enough.
Also, how often are you legally covered to pull a CCW? In many states and cities there are specific 'Level Of Force' laws, and it's much easier paperwork and less time in court if you can take a cut to your jacket and put the guy down during a barfight than if you unload in a crowded room of drunks after a few yourself.

BulletBlocker hasn't been lab tested for being stab-resistant, my understanding that is in the process - toward the last third of this older video there's some in-house testing with a knife and hatchet (Same anti-ballistic panels are used for all of the vests and travel accessories).:

Handgun demos are available on the bulletblocker.com site. The executive vest is IIIA $295 and is concealable but is not a full wrap-around, less than 5 pounds. The next step up that we have is the Defender, $395 - 4.55lbs. to 5.65lbs depending on size. Also, if you order use Sav5 in discount code for 5% off.

I think that making something "arrow proof" would be next to impossible. The velocity of a broadhead hunting arrow and the sharpness of the blades would slice through almost any cloth type armor (kevlar etc). The only thing that would stop that type of blade would be a plate of some type. It would be interesting testing though.
