I've killed many roosting pigeons with a blowgun. It's like shooting targets. They'll just sit under the eaves of buildings a few feet above your head with their chests puffed out. One dart through the heart does the trick. Killing other game is less certain, at least for this Westerner. I'm sure a South American Indian could put a dart up a monkey's ass at 50 yards. I'll stick with pigeons.

i always figured they were only effective as poison delivery systems. That they could be nice, quiet vermin killers on their own is rather interesting to me.

you cant use any old rat poison here. You need something that will work damn near immediately and in miniscule amounts. I can't think of anything like that in the US

Yeah you would want something that killed almost instantly but Dwind said I dont know of anything like that in the US. But pugz you could maybe get the ones with longer needles on them those I have actually seen and if you get your aim right you could maybe kill..a turkey? Not saying you will but maybe.

When I lived in town I killed several squirrels and a half dozen citified rabbits out of my garden. With the squirrels if you didn't make a first shot kill or missed the dart was gone and so was your game. The tamer city rabbits were no problem to hit but the needles were so sharp and so small in diameter it sometimes took three through the heart to kill. Which is no small task. They do make broad headed hunting darts but they do not penetrate far enough.

The good blow guns achieve a pretty remarkable velocity and you can make darts with cool little plastic broadheads on them. They are not toys. You'd have to be damn good (or lucky) to kill a turkey, but small birds, rabbits, squirrels, etc. are definitely in the --how shall I put this?-- lethal performance envelope.

Im not sure I would eat a critter that I just killed with poison:xeye:
I dont think I would either.
I have owned a blow gun for years, I used to be a decent shot with it, however I have never been able to get a clean kill on any animals, either the shot was too long or the dart didnt fully penetrate enough to kill the animal.
I think that they may have their uses though.:)
