I can't say what I would like to as the SS would be kicking in my door.

I hate to break this to you, but we have all been on the farm for a very long time. Voting for a new master doesn't make you free.

I'm no fan of Bloomberg, but most of the politically incorrect things he has said are true. If you have no dog in the tax fight, there is no reason to resist raising taxes on others so that you can get more freebies.

If the amount YOU pay in taxes is on the line, you will resist the Democrats' continual calls for tax increases. If low-income families have to share the tax burden, there will be fewer low-income people voting Democrat. Everyone should have to pay something in taxes. That could be 5% for the poor, but it should be something.

In most European countries, everyone pays exorbitant taxes, even low-income people. That is the only way a country can afford socialism.

This is why I would rather have a national sales tax than an income tax. Everyone pays a sales tax. A national sales tax would also encourage saving, making people less dependent upon the government.

That's called the VAT (value-added tax) in Europe. It's a consumption tax that's embedded in the cost of almost everything. The VAT is paid in addition to income taxes. You won't see a sales tax listed on a receipt in Europe because the VAT is already included in the cost of the products. The VAT is also charged on homes and cars. It can be anywhere from 25% to 35%, depending on the country.

I can't see politicians in the USA ever getting rid of our income tax system. The progressive income tax serves the Democrats very well.
