So who on here has bad vision? I burned my eyes as a kid on UV exposure equipment at my grandpas factory back in Germany. Got a -2.75 on both eyes from it. So now i have/need contacts. Anyone stocking up on some of these. Home many backup pairs of glasses do u have. All the ammo in the world wont save you if you cant see your enemy or your prey. Thoughts input?

I have a -7.5, and a -8.0 -- my eyes used to be worse, but they got better with each pregnancy. (I guess that happens to some women.)

I have a pair of glasses in my current prescription, contacts, and a pair of glasses in my old prescription which will work if absolutely necessary.

For what it's worth I found a online source for very inexpensive glasses. It is here. I have used them for 3 years now and have about 10 pairs of different ones Reading, computer wear, safety, and close up repair work. They start at $6.95 for single vision with frame. It takes knowing what your prescription is and your pupil distance apart (PD). They come from China and it takes about a month to get them.

You could easily stock up a dozen against SHTF.

This was one of my major concerns and I always kept my old glasses for future use. This past Friday I finally went ahead with Lasik Custom and I'm definitely impressed. Mid/Long distance vision is great, doc tested me at 20/20 vision, but I'm seeing annoying 'starbursts' around lights and my reading vision hasn't recovered yet.

Using my Dad's old cheapo reading glasses for the time being and was thinking about picking up a bunch as a barter item for $5 a piece at wally world. Think I'll take Rextex's advice and load up on them at the dollar store instead! Even if my reading vision recovers(which I expect/hope it to), I'll still have a valuable item to barter with down the road with an endless shelf life and it takes up very little room! ;)

Those are my prescriptions also. My eyes had stabilized. But when I got heavily into computers back in the late 80s/early 90s, my eyes took a years long dive. It looks like they're settling down again though. Only minor changes every few years.

It sure sucks being this blind. I'm seriously considering corrective surgery.

I can't afford corrective surgery right now, but I am afraid of lasik surgery, anyway. I'm not afraid of a lot of things, but I can't imagine having my eyes messed up worse than they are now if the surgery went bad. (I know -- not very likely).

A couple of my acquaintances who had really bad eyesight went and got the lasik surgery. Their eyes are slowly getting worse again, and they are wearing glasses again after only a few years. I guess it doesn't work for everyone.

We have optical coverage for the first time EVER, so everyone in my house went to the eye doctor this spring and got new glasses. That was an important prep to me.

It's not that the surgery went bad. It's that the eyes continue to change anyway. The surgery doesn't stop that. They would have continued to change without it too. But at least they won't require as much correction. Often, the clinics will offer free vision corrections if that happens.

i wanted to get corrective surgery but with a 97.5 success rate ill be in the 2.5% that gets screwed and ends up completely blind.
The 2.5% don't end up blind. They just end up with less correction and are not considered a success. The actual risk is very low.

To me, I judge by whether it will free me completely from corrective lenses, or just make me need a weaker prescription. If I'm still dependant on lenses, then there is no benefit to the surgery.

We get our eyes done every year and I do have new glasses with my old ones as a back up. The Dr. said my eyes weren't changing much and probably have settled down to how they will be for a number of years.

My worry is with my DH. He has glaucoma and as long as we have his meds, he will do great. The exact reason I stock up heavily on his eye drops. Right now we have 3 months worth just by ordering them every 3 weeks along with our other drugs.
