Should Obama get elected the democrats will come for our guns, but not for at least 2.5 months. Time to get ready. What is the best way to prepare pistols and rifles for long-term storage, such as buried in PVC? Rub them in and out with petroleum jelly? Bury vertically submerging in oil, and if so what oil? And what of ammunition?

Expect them to cut off foreign ammo importation first. Then ban any gun with 10 round capacity or more. They will push for as hard a legislation as they can get. Every president feels they have a "Mandate" to do what is "Best" for the people. It will not be one piece of legislation but one after another. Some will be from Presidents desk. Cut off imports is one way they can act quickly with congress getting involved.
If you are allowed to have a gun at all it will be a shotgun of double barrel or single barrel action and you will be allowed to buy a few shells at a time. When you want more shells you must bring in the spent ammo casings.

You can store them after you have them greased down good. That's what the military does. It also helps to wrap them in oilcloth or greased paper. If you store them in a tube, don't forget to use packs to absorb moisture and air out of the storage tube to help keep the guns from rusting. Make sure to bury them some place where you can see where they're stored every day, at least from a distance and maybe not on your property...
One guy I know has a couple of guns and some ammo buried underground across from his house in a wooded lot. He can look out the door, across the street and right to where his guns are buried without walking outside of his house.

RIG is a gun grease.
They just stoped making it, you might still find some. when I heard they were not going to be making it (Company got bought) I bought enough to last me 25-30 years.
When I was deployed to Iraq I went to my parents house, used a small paintbrush to put a layer of RIG on the guns... and they sat in nonclimate controled conditions right on the gulf coast for a year...
When I came back... they had no rust.
(Think of it as Cosmoline that you don't haveot take off before you can shoot your gun)

Axel grease works if you can't find cosmoline, plus buying grease at an auto parts store raises no suspicions.

might not be good in fire but I know an old man when he died his family had no idea how many guns he had because he plastered them in the walls of the house. he thought back in the day they would come for them

In one rack, that holds 26 rifles, I have 12 I've NEVER shot...
all of us with multiple weapons- be prepared to train with people to use them effectively. i hate to say it but it does look like a case of if its time to bury them its time to dig them up
