Was having this debate with a friend of mine ... he's really into his gun and cause i live in the UK, i dont own a firearm ...

... So ... My question ...

What do you think is the most affective non-firearm SHTF Urban Weapon ?

Your Thought ?

yeah, what ever happened to the tire iron? guess those rivited together things in car trunks now dont work, there nothing like a 78 Buick tire iron.

Seriously, a friend (lot younger then me), we were horsing around. I bet him he couldnt smack me and I would not block him. All I had was a surefire G3 light, after two minutes of trying he said he had a really bad headache. Every chick should carry a good light. And a pointy knife too!

I was going to say the umbrella is expensive. But on a re check not too bad.
http://www.real-self-defense.com/unbreakable-walking-stick-umbrella_standard.html

A walking stick you can also use to move if you are injured. As well as other incidental things.

People who tell you knives are more deadly than bats probably haven't stabbed anybody. (I haven't I wouldn't know)

Mag light or the equivelent is also a usefull tool. (Good car kit)

Swearing.

I think the trick for any meele weapon is to be agressive. And use both hands

i like the walking stick idea ... i known a Parang and Kukri and several Escrima Sticks ... they are tough and will inflict a lot of damage if used correctly ... hell ... even if they are used incorrectly they are gonna cause damage

i use knives for self-defense and i am trained in 2 martial arts as well have having training as a soldier and police officer ... i know how to handle myself ... just want more suggestions as to what people would use for defense (or offense)

Baseball bat is a good idea ... friends do look at me kinda weird when they see my organising my kit ... they saw my Gerber LMF II and my Cold Steel Kukri and one of them asked me "You planning on going to war ?" i replied "No ... but that doesn't mean someone ain't going to declare war on me ... "

hands down pepper spray. I'll never forget getting sprayed, and you can hit multiple people at once from a good range. The last thing on your mind is fighting when that stuff hits your face.

If your goal is to hit multiple people at one time, then I would recommend using any of the Bear Sprays that are available on the market. Bear sprays generally come in larger one (1) pound containers and create a cloud of Oleoresin Capsicum that nobody is going to want to walk through.

Oh yes pepper spray that stuff works let me tell ya.

Years ago while working as a landscaper I and the crew found a small, very small pocket size spray. We kept it in the work truck. Well one day while I was cleaning the greenhouse for the boss I stirred up a nest of what appeared to be fruit flies. Extra note;young and dumb mid-20's I was. Anyways I got the bright idea to see how strong that pepper spray was and used it in the greenhouse on the flies. Sprayed the barrel etc ... holy Cripes! Cough, gag it didn't take me long to figure out that was a BAD IDEA! hahahaha ... eyes burnt, nose sneezing and dripping it was pure hell! So yeah my vote is the pepper spray if nothing else. And yes on the baseball bat as well.

Your brain.

Anything can be used as a weapon, but you need determination and emotional content behind any action. We all have natural instincts but we need to separate states of mind from raw emotion.

Emotions have a designated purpose versus states of mind (the difference lies in self-control); Love is an emotion that builds bonds between man and wife, son and father, soldier and commander - Passion is a state of mind that makes irrational decisions and kindles a fire that can destroy marriages, friendships & families.

Anger is an emotion that can increase awareness & give strength, but it treads dangerously close to Rage which will cause you to be reckless and make you act without thinking.

Fear is an immeasurably valuable emotion that serves us well by creating a heightened sense of awareness as well as giving us the "advantage" of adrenalin... Panic makes the "advantage" of adrenalin useless...

Fight as you train, train as you fight - when it happens you will not rise to the occasion you will default to your level of training - I'm sorry but the human brain is the most lethal machine on this planet...

Can you buy/get legally shotgun cartridges? If yes build and have ready all the necessary parts for a zip homemade shotgun, but never put it togheter unless really wrol

How about black powder guns did they took them from you as well? The other day a read one of you guys kill himself using a vintage gun, all he some how was able to keep after your gov confiscated everything

I'd go with brain and a realisation that you've got to put the work in. It's made everything from a sharpened stick through to nuclear weapons.

In an unsocial fight (ie not antisocial, but a survival level fight), everything is allowed. Elbows, knees, sharp edges, the ripped off arm of his best mate, guns, rolled up magazine.

Spraying him with pepper spray and then going to work on separating his body from his brain with a baseball bat sounds like a sound start.

FYI - best selling item on amazon during UK riots - aluminium baseball bats. Got one by the front door. Waiting to teach my 1 year old the beautiful American game....

Finally!! I was reading your laws in Wikipedia and you are fu&@ up in that country but good news you can still buy crossbows ( but not practice, hunt or be in public).

They are letal but hurry get one they are trying to ban them.

You can buy pistol size here in USA, good for BOB maybe in uk as well

crossbows are fun but for SD...not really practical.

Since you guys have some pretty strict laws for weapons just stick with non-weapons. the baseball bat + your brain is your best combo. A collapsible baton is one of the worst ideas because it is an offensive weapon and you cant argue that it isn't, especially in court.

Let me see, :D:

SHTF after a year half the people had died no law or order, you are hiding and only gangs and starving out of mind people are running the streets or suburbs, you and your group manage to prepare and have enough water and food for some more months and you are waiting better time to come out.

Then your position is discover by a gang of 5 to 10 willing to kill for anything and charge your location trying to overrun and kill you and your family, your group and you are just 3 to 5 adults,

So which “practically” you wanna choose:

a) Jump out of your hiding and fight them using your non-lethal weapons (bats, batons, pipes)

b) Wait until they reach the killing zone and shoot at a rate of 4:60sec lethal 100gr velocitip or xcalibur type arrows at 400 ft/sec. (if any come across I would use an axel or spear for a final close quarters combat )

similar apply in a bug out situation, the crossbow will alway let you keep distance between you and the zombies an is legal in UK so is a no brainer in this nazi country.

Not sure if they're legal in the UK or not, but a good quality crossbow would be my choice hands down. They were so lethal that the Pope decreed them verboten back in the Middle Ages, not that many people listened.

Failing that, a short-limbed recurve bow. Officially it can be for archery practice, but would make a formidable weapon as well, especially once some practice is had. Google Atienze Kali archery for some ideas.

Human bodily waste and terror.

For actual melee I would use a crushing weapon up close and a long bow at range. The problem with edged weapons is that that have a nasty habit of getting stuck in the skull and joints. But I do love me a good sword....

And for less than lethal... BEAR spray! Much greater range and MUCH more effective. We used it in Afghanistan and that crap WORKS. Be mindful of the wind if you are on a convoy..... LOL Lesson learned the hard way by a young hard charger.
