Guys and gals, I am looking at buying a 45acp after the first of the year, give me your suggestions.

I am currently looking at the Rock Island 1911 Tactical model.

Second option is the Springfield XD.

To be perfectly honest, I have wanted a 1911 style pistol for a long time.

Please, no colt suggestions. After colt suspended sales of its AR to the general public, I said screw them, colt can go belly up.

I would like some kind of Tactical model so a light can be mounted to it.

*any suggestions might be included in an article on my blog.

I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions.

This is the pistol I am currently looking at

Rock Island Armory 1911 Tactical Rail Semi Auto Handgun .45 ACP 5" Barrel 8 Round Fixed Sights Parkerized Steel Frame Wood Grips

Current Price $472.89

This model has a rail system, but no night sights. I figure I could get the night sights later on.

Kev, I've read on here that you're not a fan of Glocks, but I'm going to suggest them anyway.
Thank you.

To me its like toyota, chevy, ford,,, some ford owners do not like chevy, some do no like toyota,,, I do not care for glock. But that is just my personal opinion.

A local gun store has a Remington 1911 R1 in stock.

Looking at getting the R1 instead of the Rock Island.

Remington 1911 R1

SHEESH. Kev, what did you end up getting TWO YEARS AGO?
Came across this thread during a google search, and just happened to see your post.

I ended up getting a Remington 1911 R1.

Reliability has been lousy. The R1 had a failure on the first magazine. During the first 100 rounds I probably had 8 failures? The Remington 1911 R1 looks nice, but would not want to bet my life on it. Remington 1911 R1 why you no work right?

The ammo was the white box stuff at walmart.

From what I have read there is a break in period for 1911s. Which kinda upsets me. My beretta 92f did not need a break in period.

Thinking about getting a non-1911 in 45acp.

I really wanted a 1911 style handgun, but I can not afford to spend $1k on it. Thinking about going back with my original plan and a Rock Island Armory.
