Are there any stores in the Baton Rouge area or nearby that a Prepper or survivalist would want to know about?

I'm in that area temporarily wondering what resources I may not know about.

Not really a prepper place per se, but they just built the largest Bass Pro Shop in the world in Denham Springs.
Been there. Love it. Also been to Cabela's in Prairieville.

Found a poorly stocked Army Surplus off of Airline Near 12.

That's all I have found. Other than the obvious like Sam's.

If you are not from Baton Rouge - be carefull. # 2 murder rate in U.S.. Lots of areas that the cops only go in force. Some areas are so tough that the ally cats go in pairs!!
Also #2 AIDS rate in the country. Keep it in yer pants!

There is a farmers market in Denham Springs on Saturdays till noon in the old James drug store parking lot. Baton Rouge and surrounding areas used to be a great place till Katrina. The good news is New Orleans is nice now but all the ninth ward ended up in baton rouge. My neighbor was car jacked last month. They attempted to shoot him in the head but he hit the gun barrel with his head and only got powder burns and grazed. Then another one hit him in the head with a butcher knife (48 staples) he had to hold his scalp together till help got there. This place is dangerous if you aren't aware of your surroundings. DO NOT go around north baton rouge. There are areas that if you even drive down they will shoot at you.

Thank you, Hurricane Katrina. She flooded the ninth ward and all the cockroaches came north.

Sam's is really the only "prepper" place to go. I find Bass Pro is more geared toward hunters, but Cabela's has a better camping selection. They also have a bigger gun selection IMO.

And don't stay in Denham Springs long! Those upper middle class Katrina refugees can be just as bad as the cockroaches, just in a different way. ...Sigh.... I really wish they would allgo back to NOLA.

LOL!! I understand EVERYTHING y'all are sayin'! I grew up just outside the 9th on Franklin Ave. Moved to Chalmette 20 years ago. Now, apparently we are being forced by some yankee bitch of a judge to build 4 projects here. :eek:We have gone from 90% home ownership to Sec. 8 on EVERY block. It is soooo much easier to bring down a friend that for him to be lifted up proper. Ok though, we still have a dedicated police force and lots of guns!!!!!!:thumb:
I remember in '89 I went to DS to help a friend repair his dad's roof after a hurricane. Nice country. Hammond is turning as well.....:(

LOL at the comments about Baton Rouge, I spent 19 years of my life there before joining the Navy and still visit several times a year.

I grew up on Plank road and Comite Dr right behind the burger king there. Also lived in Baton Rouge off of Airline Hwy by the old Coca-cola factory. Spent many of my days in Central, Baton Rouge, Baker, and Zachary.. Never had any problems.

Hell even went to school at Broadmore, Southeast, Woodlawn, and Glenn Oaks, did summer school at Scotlandville, and then went to Baker High School finally finishing out at Central Private School LOL..

The area is only as bad as you make it and people will only do things to you as you let them. Anything else is because YOU were probably in the wrong place doing the wrong thing.

As far as survivalist needs and stuff, your in the sportsmans paradise -- Bass Pro Shop in Denham, Red Jacket in Baton Rouge, and plenty of hunting stores and mom/pop shops around town, Flea Market on Florida BLVD - usually you can find some good things there..

P.S. Try living out here in Fresno, CA or Oakland, CA... You will be wishing you had the NOLA people in a few days. Though broken and ebonic at least they still speak english, and everything they do isnt because they are a gang.

YOU really don't know what your talking about. Two 15 year olds tried to kill a police officer last night. There is a shooting, murder, or body found almost daily. The 2nd highest murder rate in the country.

Yeah, that is anywhere you go.. They find people dead and dumped in the middle of the roads all the time here, upon the countless murders/deaths from gang related activities.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but in B.R. atleast it happens mostly in the designated neighborhoods on people involved with the crap. Not at the mall/grocery stores.
