The government won't allow BofA to fail... they'll force BofA to split up... or nationalize it all-together

I just recieved a notice from SunTrust ( who I've always been extremely satisfied with) that if I don't go direct-deposit, or keep a minimum ballance of $500 ( which I ain't doing) then they'll cancel my account next month. I have direct deposit with a local credit union, then usually transfer some funds to my SunTrust debit account for debit/internet transactions ( I prefer SunTrust because they can be easily reached by phone, and don't charge to cancel/reissue a card after fraudulent charges, which happens all-too-frequently these days).
I think we're being herded into a corner by the banks, and whether we like it or not, our options will likely soon disappear. Cash is being demonized and will eventually fall by the way-side, banks continue to consolidate and grow larger, and as we're more and more forced to use these banks and their electronic currency, we'll simply have nowhere else to run.
This IS the future.

Anyone who hasn't gone to a locally owned credit union at this point has been asleep at his own wheel for a decade or more. Here in Minnesota, we have the Mall of America. It's mostly Chinese goods. I assume the Bank of America is no different. If you want to keep ponying up some of your money to international investors, I guess that's your business.

Also, I last paid ATM fees probably in the mid-1990's. Haven't paid a cent since.

The only credit unions where I live are for people that don't need them. Cops, firefighters, paramedics, teachers, defense workers and the military. They all make great money, the regular people don't have such a nice place to do their banking, at least not as far as I can find.

banks which control these interchange fees along with the merchants have the consumer right over a barrel. they both save a fortune by not having the profit sink of a cash transaction to have to safeguard, count, transport, and store yet they have the audacity to charge the consumer for something saving them money. what a joke.

taking into account that any transaction made with a debit/credit card is trackable i cant fathom using one on anything other than an emergency.

Well, when they all start doing something like this, and you need a bank account basically in order to survive, what are those people to do but take it?

If you have to get paychecks cashed down here, you are going to do one of two things, you are going to have a bank account or you are going to places like liquor stores and other establishments to do that.

My wife and I have managed to survive a decade now without a credit card because of the games they play. We cannot rent a car if we need one, there are so many things that we cannot do because we do not participate in the credit card scams that the government allows companies to do. As they are allowing the banks to do.

Like I said, most people don't like the concept of "redistribution of wealth" unless it is going up, then they're just fine with that sort of thing.

Here is my biggest problem... BOA is already basically getting interest free money from the Fed. Basically as much as they want. So they are investing all that money and pocketing the difference already to fill their coffers. This being money they were supposed to LEND US and OPEN UP CREDIT!!! Ever wonder how they paid off their bailout loans so fast?? Now they want to nickle and dollar all their customers also???

Double check the government pay plan lately as I certainly wouldn't call them low paid anymore. By a long shot where I'm at.

Also I think it is Citi Bank that will start charging, ready for this, $15.00 for debit card use.

It don't bother me one bit as I was bright enough to move my money when I heard about all the assistance BOA gave to illegals yet made me jump through hoops. I say good for them! haha

Boy, am I glad I decided not to buy BAC a couple of weeks ago. I have a feeling it's about to take a huge dip.

I don't understand how they think this will work- people won't just start using other methods of payment, they'll switch to banks that DON'T have this charge. In my opinion, in droves. I know if MY bank decides to try this, I'll drop them like, yesterday. This IS going to cost them customers- a LOT of customers.

I for one may be one of those leaving. I have been with BofA for 35-40 years, helped to build their local branch building in the mid-late '70s and over all had a great experience with them. the local employees have always addressed us by name and gone out of their way to resolve any issues we have ever had.

We do not have a credit union in our area but do have a smaller local bank who has a great manager or we may go with USAA savings bank who has no fee checking. Just last summer I opened a new business acct. and they make me use the ATM/debit card twice a month for purchases to override a $16 per month fee. Our old accounts are fee free so far.

Between the government and Banks there is way too much CONTROL going on with our financial information, drive to electronic money, discouragement of using cash and just general nosiness to have faith in their sincerity.

Considering that the banks have made/saved a ton of money on switching checks processing to debit cards already, I find the idea of a monthly fee to have one as ludicrous. Whats next, a monthly fee to deposit money with them? Account maintenance fees if you should want to know how much you have and how much you spent?

I have never paid money for any of my banking (checking, debits, savings) and never will. Now I do not make much anymore on interest (if anything) for giving the banks the use of my money, but I will be danged if I pay them for the privileged. I think that the people that do need to go get their head examined.

Go bankrupt BofA! Let your executives pay for something.

I don't have any problem at all with them making money any way they can. That's capitalism. I just don't think they can make money with this. People won't accept it. They'll go somewhere else. It's just that simple.

I don't dislike it because I think it's a rip-off. I dislike it because I think it's a poor business model. If they do this, they will no lose their standing as largest bank.
