Actually, the premise is that getting your PH up above 7.45 will allow your body to maximize oxygenation, which will cause cancer cells to die off. One of the other people who have used this successfully heated the baking soda with pure maple syrup and would take a couple of teaspoons in hot water.
There are other articles about a man who found out about it from a woman who was the only surviving sister of, I believe it was 4 or 5 all of whom had succumbed to breast cancer. When he asked her what she did differently, she apparently told him she was fond of drinking baking soda and molasses as a hot drink with water. Not as a cure or preventative, she always like it.
Who knows if that's a true story, but as I said, a higher PH seems to be beneficial when fighting cancer. Considering the minor cost, as long as the person isn't idiotic and faithfully monitors their ph to make sure it isn't driven too high, and causes some bad things to happen, it could be beneficial.
