Eagle Becker Patrol Pack. It has 8 exterior pockets that are sized well for various kits, mags and supplies. Tent and bag outside, tools in the slip pockets, med kit, AR mags, hygiene, water bottles, and a lots more go in in the outside pockets. Inside it will hold clothing, cook set, food, water bladder, and so on. It has a great belt to which you can attach most anything as well.

It comes in 3 sizes and can be fitted with an internal frame, too.

Here is the standard model that I have. Ver similar to the Alice Pack.

A little wider main compartment on this one but it's especially for RTO's.

About double the capacity of the standard an great for lots of gear.

I just picked up my BOB today. Got it at the same store I got my KaBar....thank you local Army Navy store. Its by Fox Outdoor gear. Its a small medium sized compact pack with lots of pockets, two big ones, hydration pack capable, and all the necessary straps. The straps are not super thick, so if you need lots of support this is either the wrong pack or I do think you can switch out the straps for wider ones. But for me its perfect, b/c I wanted something small and lightweight but still had plenty of storage. If theres not enough pockets it seems you can add more to it with plenty of attachment points. Not sure how much it goes for online but I got it for 40 bucks which to me was an awesome deal.

I had my own Biz for a few years, sold VooDoo, Fox Outdoor,Tru Spec and all the generic Surplus stuff.

Fox Outdoor- fell apart in 3 weeks of use. Made to look good but you really do get what you pay for with this stuff. For every order I got, at least 2-3 were substandard and went into my bargain bin. It was cheaper to sell at cost than send it back for credit. Would be worse now with the increase of shipping rates

Tru Spec- especially the BDU's are crap, they fall apart about the 3rd wash. They just dont cut it. For hunting 2-3 times a year they are ok, but the only company making decent BDU's is Propper Intl. Large minimum orders at wholesale, but never had a return on anything. Sold a bunch to PD Tac teams, tiger pattern. Looks sexy, but easy to pick out with good optics.

Voo Doo- Its ok, not on the same page as the early BlackHawk or Eagle, and not Tactical Tailor by any means, but light use, weekend type stuff you should be fine.

I sold everything LE used, armor to shoes for 4 years until 9/11 killed all the small biz supppliers. Uncle bought everything, I couldnt get shoelaces for months after. But, I learned the hard way about gear that lasted and gear that sold because it was cheap and mass produced for little use and stored in closets. I need to post more about stuff that fell apart but I really dont get much time.

what is your definiton of mid-sized? i have a RUSH 72 and it's just about 2900 cubic inches, i also added a few molly pouches. it's a well built pack. the RUSH 24 is also a good pack, and it's about 2100 cubic inches. i added a few molly pouches to that one as well. i am happy with both. i am not too concerned about the 'cool looking' factor as much as the comfort and functionality of a pack, but these don't look too bad. mine are both flat dark earth.

Buy the best quality pack that you can afford and that fit's you comfortably. A top quality bag from Maxpedition or Kifaru will likely last you a lifetime. A cheap one, if it falls apart when TSHTF, could cost your life.

I looked at the bug-out bag at a store and was impressed with the quality of construction. It appears to be very durable and a lot of pockets. It was $89 in the store but I found them much cheaper on-line.

Once again, I find myself in agreement with another poster. The Becker (ranger mod.) is an outstanding unit from every review or feedback forum I've read. Nice kit! Love to have one.

The Maxpedition Vulture II is another good mid-sized option. I have the Blackhawk 3 day pack and recently ordered the 3 piece accessory kit to match the coyote color.

I have two side pouches for this pack in OD for sale (new w/tags) if anyone is interested.

You're headed in the right direction by researching some before you buy. There are a ton of good videos on You Tube on carry bags. The only bag I'd put my families life on for hiking, camping and as a BOB is Maxpedition. They are a bit more expensive but they are build to last forever.
Look them up and read more on them. You'll see. Be patient. Save your money. Don't buy the cheaper gear. Buy right the first time.
Just my 2 cents. I am a bit of a bag snob.:D:
