Well i have had no time to make any knives over the last week or so as i have been finishing contracts for my sharpening service.

But guess what,im back.

Heres some pictures of the knife i made today.

Blade bushcraft style-O1 tool steel.

Handle-Roupala lace wood and 6mm brass pins and lanyard tube.

The sheath was made by a Polish cobbler and is the best made i have seen to date.

Hi son lol looking good. Im out of stock again .so im not doing much.
Hows it going Paps.:D:

Ive just found out that my Brother-in-law orders steel stock for his company,he can get me O1 tool steel at a good price so im going to order 6 meters:thumb:

O1 is my preferred steel to work with and it seems that most English cuttlers make there bushcraft knives from O1,if its good enough for them, its good enough for me.

Interesting wood grain and very nice sheath. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!
Roupala is a medium weight hard wood from Brazil, the grain pattern consists of a multitude of eyes.

At the moment this wood is very hard to find and on some of the sites ive looked at it is currently not available.

Its a beautiful looking wood and nice to work but very fine and dusty,I like to work mostly with walnut, oak and yew.

Maple is really good for knife handles but is so hard that it burns when using the bench sanding belt.

here a progress report on the new knife ive just made.

This morning i shaped out the handle and sanded it smooth.

Ive started to treat the handle with Danish oil,a few more coats and that will be done.

then a little bit more work on the blade and i can bees wax the handle.:thumb:

Heres a picture of how its looking.

better and better

I am guessing the black is from tempering. Did you hammer the blade at all to shape it or did you make the bevel with your sander?
Theres two ways that i have made blades,1}is forging 2}is called stock removal.

This one is by stock removal which is to use flat stock and shape your blade using grinders, sanders, files and abrasives.

The black is from forging but this takes some elbow grease and some fine hand sanding work to remove.

Here is the finished knife.

the handle has had 5 coats of Danish oil and 2 coats of a mix of Danish oil and pure bees wax which made a type of polish for the finish, then rub like a men demented for a nice finish.[Thanks Blue123 for the idea]:thumb:

The blade has had some fine finishing work done to it and given a secondery bevel to add strength to the blade.

Ive also added a rope twist leather lanyard.

the next step with this blade is to take a very close look at it under different light conditions and see if im happy with the finish then i will give it a good strop.
