Awareness

I've had my CCW for a few months now, and I've become accustomed to carrying IWB. However, I've recently been going out OWB and, while I generally try to stay aware of my surroundings, I've found that I'm more aware carrying this way. I think it's because OWB is more easily visible, and I become more concerned with the possibility of someone grabbing my firearm. I was never really concerned about someone seeing while carrying IWB because most people told me that no one ever notices. Has anyone else experienced this heightened awareness while carrying OWB?

Nope. IWB is not a problem.

You see, if the OWB holster doesn't keep the pistol extremely close and tight to your body either your holster, belt, or both are not doing their job and need to be replaced.

But weapon retention . . . . not an issue either way. :)

IWB = Inside the Waistband
OWB = Outside the Waistband.

On topic, I carry mostly IWB. My only problem with OWB is being self conscious about whether my gun is exposed when bending, getting out of cars, or sitting. IWB, I dont worry about it at all because if my gun is exposed more than likely I will know because my skin is also exposed.

Always stay aware. Example: I have seen many auto accidents occur where if someone would have been standing on the edge of a street corner waiting to cross than one of the vehicles involved would have plowed over that person.

I watch so many people stand right at the edge of a street corner sidewalk waiting to cross as several vehicles speed only a couple of feet away from them. When in the city I always stand far back from the street and even when I have the right of way to cross I am constantly looking over my shoulder for crazy drivers. Seen to many accidents not to to be aware.

Just a example to make my point. You can never be to careful or too aware.

I use a shoulder holster when I know I will be sitting all day and a cross draw would be hard to conceal.

I train with it religiously and year round.

And it is still the slowest draw method of any carry position I use. The muzzle still points at me (mine holds the pistol vertically) and is dang hard to draw without sweeping myself somewhere.

So . . . I wouldn't dare recommend it for anyone. :taped:
