Arsenal SLR107 vs m&m M10 7.62?

I currently own a yugo underfolder, one of the century ones. It's been a decent rifle, fairly accurate, reliable, etc, but I just don't like that goofy underfolding stock. Since a friend of mine is willing to pay me what I paid for it, I am going to sell it, and upgrade. From what I can tell, Arsenals get a lot of positive press. I just want a pretty basic 7.62 AK, that won't have crooked sights, or badly fitted parts, and it seems like Arsenal fits that bill. However, I like the look, and also what I read about the M&M M10 7.62. My only issue is that on the M10, the flash suppressor is not detachable, and I would want to change that. Also, are AKs with the front sight on the gas block less likely to be crooked than rifles with the sights on the barrel? I love the AK platform, but I will have some money after this deployment, and want to buy once cry once, I don't want a bargain rack WASR. Advice is appreciated!

I have the M10 rifle, well my dad does, and i regret not telling him to pay the extra(at the time) $200 for the arsenal...its a decent rifle no question but its still romanian(just like the wasr)..build quality is decent nothing special..I mean for the price again at the time , it was $200 more than my amd65 and easily my amd65 bests it...however it did come with a quad rail which is like $60, a hogue grip(which is amazing imo and made me buy one for my amd65) but they are like $800s now and NO WAY would i pay that much for it...I had to reinstall the quad rail it was crooked / no installed properly which its very basic/easy but still not right...the finish is again just OK imo, only thing better than amd 65(which is the cheapest paint i've seen)..so yes after this small rant id say get the Arsenal and be happy..

Oh and the flash suppressor on the M10 does come off, i replaced it with a tapco slot muzzle brake(so if any one wants a tapco razr i have one for sale :) )

The M10 is made in the Cugir factory in Romania right along side the WASR. Just a different importer. Even Arsenals can come with wildly canted sights. Be advised while the Arsenals are nice rifles the finish melts right off if you clean them with anything stronger than CLP.

I have heard different things about Arsenals. Some people seem to think they are the best ever AKs, but if that's the case, why do they seem to have such bad qc issues? I want something that will be low maintenance, and not need to be returned to the factory or babied.

I've only heard good from them(Arsenal)..again I own a M10 and its just a working AK, had some issues chambering a round when i first got it, couldn't ride the bolt at all had to let it slam forward to chamber. Shoots fine, not many rounds through it because its my dads and I've only shot it about 30rds or so..but it works but again for the price they are now, no way would i pay that much...There are many other AK's i would look for...

have to understand, Romanian AK's are the entry level AK's...Again they typically work fine, QC is usually worse, but they tend to work because well its an AK. But they are an AK that should be around the 400-500$$ mark NOT the $800..unless you are getting it for a lot less than that?

Cool, thanks guys! I am looking at getting the 107, putting a tws dog leg rail with rear aperture, aimpoint t1, and possibly a beryl foldin stock depending on how I like the stock that comes with it. It will definitely cost me some money, but I'd rather buy once cry once than deal with a crappy ak.

Out of curiosity, anyone here have experience with the '74 style stocks? I love the look, but I have a feeling the lack of a cheekweld might make it tougher to get a good sight picture. How do arsenal's folding stocks compare?

74 being a triangle folding stock? I've handled them. What's nice about them is you can change the triangle folder out for a full russian poly side folding stock. The mechanism for the most part is the same.

Only problem with the full stock and triangle stock is they won't fold if you have a Red Dot mounted on the receiver scope mount rail.

I'd get the new yugo m70 with rpk reciever, oak stocks. Factory made, not a century chop shop. $600 or so.

1000 for arsenal. Are they that nice? They arent romanians... Nor are yugos. Buy a yugo and 2000 rounds of ammo for price of russian made...

Ok, thanks for the advice on the stock Drobs. Anyone use one of the Beryl style stocks? They look like the top bar is lower, and might not interfere with a red dot optic over the reciever, especially if it's mounted on a tws dogleg rail. Also, is there a big difference between the Arsenal 23-61 and the 21-61?

Ah, I had a Yugo underfolder. Put on Hogue forend with heatshield and pistol grip. Looking at getting the cheek weld attachment for the stock... Basic rifle, does what I want to cqb for the rpk.

AMD 65 intrigues me. Fired once, didn't like it. Think because of no cheek weld and buckhorn sights. Theres a doohickey for that too. With a reflex holo sight, no big deal to be accurate with head bobbin' freely. Forend scope mount for that... Even a M7 USGI bayonet lug so it can swap with you AR loves, and still use the AK bayonets. M7 is a better field knife to the AK bayonet, either the nice slab of carbon, or zinc coated crap. AK bayonet was designed less as a dual purpose field knife.

Yugos take a special bayonet, FYI.

I regret not getting the Arsenal 7.62x39... Got two 5.45. LOVE THEM!!

Well, I settled it, I bought an AMD65. I wanted and Arsenal, but nobody had stamped receivers in stock, just the milled ones. Seeing as how those are both heavier and more expensive, I decided to go with the AMD which I got a good deal on. I would love an Arsenal, but I can't spend anymore money for a while!
