Been fiending for an Arsenal AK SLR for awhile now.

Want to here from fellow dudes and AK pros....

1. Definitely want the folding stock. What is the cheek weld like for this model?:

http://www.arsenalinc.com/slr107fm.htm

Or is the solid folding stock better?

2. Any known issues with Arsenal AKs? I know they are the caddies of AK's so don't expect many issues.

(I know there are PLENTY other AK threads but when does it really ever get old, right?)

I have one and love it, the overall fit and finish on an Arsenal is mind blowing for an AK. I decided to get the fixed stock on my SGL31 to maximize simplicity and avoid future stock problems. The Russian Mil fields the side folder so I'd say they are good to go, just not something I want on my rifle.

Arsenals are about the best AK's you will find on the market, you won't be disappointed.

My SGL31 5.45x39:

Awesome!

Yeah, I never fired an AK that had a metal folding stock....I'm curious as to how annoying that may or may not be.....
Oh, this kind of folding stock...when I read your other post I was thinking the old wire stock like this

The one you linked too was designed all around the 5.45 iirc. No idea how it is on 7.62, but..if the wire and under folders are of any comparison, it's not something to really question outside of looks...

As far as I can tell. Arsenal ak's are just saigas built up and made to look pretty. But for the price they want for them it would be easier to do yourself and save the cash.

Anyway anyone know if those wire stocks are worth a damn?:taped:

Not quite... their SGL models are converted Saigas but their other models are Bulgarian Arsenal models.

Their SGL conversions are well worth it, compared to any other professionally converted model, but you are correct, if you have the tools (the bullet guide is the hard part so youd need a drill press) and are mechanically inclined you'd save some cash!

My bro has one of those wire stocks on his SAR-1 and it doesn't give you cheek weld for crap but it doesn't wobble in the least. It works for what it works for...

The folding solid stock is pure tits... that thing is NICE!!!

Yea, they work. Not much on your cheek though....I also kinda have a fancy for the side folding 74' style...

Yeah I like the 74 style stocks myself. But they are a bit on the price heavy side for my broke ass.

I've seen people damn near giving those wire stocks away.:

I am a Saiga owner and I looked into the Arsenal AK's (SGL) Saw what I could pay for a Saiga and do the work myself. And pretty much build it like someone would build an AR. But for way cheaper. Way, way cheaper.:D:
Did I say it's cheaper?

Anyway, To each is own. If I could afford one I'd buy it snippity snap. I'd really like one of their RPK's as well.

If you can afford one it's probably one of the best AK's on the market today. If not the best made.

I shot a friends Arsenal a few times and they are the Sheeite for AK's, they even look the part of that hot sexy thing you dream of. Guess I will just have to settle with our two Norinco's for now but as stated earlier, if not for my broke Azz one would be on the shopping list.

There are a couple other manufacturers that make AK's about as good as Arsenal, but none make them better. I've owned and own quite a few, they have no issues that I am aware of and are the finest full-blooded combat assault rifles money can buy.

Not meaning to hijack but, has anyone tried the collapsible /AR style stock with theirs? Was thinking of getting one due to sons short arms.

I have one on my saiga. because I'm a tall dude and got long arms. when it in position one its a lil longer than a standard ak stock (nato length) but they are butt ugly.

They are combat rifles(semi auto for us). But brand spanking new ones. Hell most of the military that uses the ak74 get beat up ones. So getting a new everything arsenal or bulgarian 74 would be tits for anyone.

I had that exact arsenal model. it was a great shooter but it had some issues. mainly the finish they use is poor. a little clp on it and itll rub right off. then it rusted immediatly after before i could fix it.
Bull corn, i've got a 107F and an SGL 21 and I clean both with CLP and no finish loss:rolleyes: I've read this stuff for a long time and it is not true. Now if you clean with brake cleaner or something like that maybe.

Hi MountainRecluse.

I have thousands of rounds through SGL21's with fixed stocks.

They are an outstanding choice if you desire to run the AK System.

A couple of points...

Their 74 style brake functions very well as a brake... but there is a lot of flash. You may want to consider switching to a Smith Enterprises Vortex Flash Eliminator for that reason.

Also, when ordering your rifle, please note that they offer both NATO (longer) and Warsaw Pact (shorter) length buttstocks, so be sure to choose the one that is most appropriate to your height and build - to save from the expense of buying the "right" fit later.

In terms of everything else - it's an AK.. what can I say? I love mine. They are great shooters.. I have heard some knock the finish but I haven't had problems... I'm not throwing mine down on the concrete, doing a summersault, and coming up with my XDm balzin'... :D:

In terms of setting up a battery for 250 meters or less for defense, I can think of few reasonable tools that I would rather stake my bacon on... everything is new, and with reasonable maintenance - and politicians and a SCOTUS that understands the Constitution, your great grandchildren will be shooting yours... :)

I own a couple of the SGL-21's which are converted Saigas.

Finish is fine for an AK, it's not a high-end bolt rifle. You'll see machining marks and I think the finish wears quickly, but mine aren't meant for beauty contests.

Stock trigger isn't great, too heavy for precision accuracy, but better than the Tapco G2 which has no break point whatsoever.

No form, fit or function issues with mine except for the handguards. Even with a steel single heat shield, if you start banging away, they'll melt. My only criticism there is that wood handguards would generally hold up longer without catching on fire.

Definately get a NATO length butt stock. I think the WARSAW length one is made for small children or small framed women (my 5'3" tall wife likes hers).

Mine will do they're best with Golden Tiger, which is about a 2.5-3" groups off a sandbag at 100 yards, depending on the lot of ammo. With my reloads, which frankly I don't mess with very often because of the cost, I can shoot consistent 2" 5-shot groups. I can't hold that for 10 shots though, I always get a flyer in there.

Me and my son were looking at a run of the mill, with bad wood, cheap mag.. wasr at a local gun store.. Over $700 with tax..Geeez, I'll be getting it online somewhere.
Geez, I got both of my Arsenal's for $499 a while back thanks to a post here from MikeK alerting me they were on sale.

I wouldn't pay more than $350 for a WASR today, and that wouldn't be a steal either.
