Well, after much consideration. Lots of sleeples nights (well maybe not sleepless, just kind of restless) I have made my decision. It was a toss up between the Armalite AR-10 in .308, a Bushmaster in 5.56 or an AK. I decided to go with the AR-10. I believe it to be a more versatile weapon system.

The .308 is good for large game hunting and the AR weapon platform is a "proven in combat" system. I prefer the gas piston of the AK and others over the direct impengment of the AR, so as soon as I get it, its being sent off to a company, LWRC, that can fit it with a short stoke gas piston, From there it goes to ROBAR, for their NP3 coating on the insides of the gun. If you don't know what NP3 from ROBAR is, look it up. Its fantasitc, I have it on the "inards" and slide of my pistol. Its a nickle finish fused with tefelon.

The only thing I don't like about the AR-10, is the price tag. $1300.00 for the gun, about $100.00 plus shipping for the NP3 and I don't know yet about the gas piston fitting. Wow, a bit much, but well worth it.

Just thought I'd share. Thanks

Not a bad choice but I personally would leave that gas piston behind. Many are quick to blast the gas system on the AR series but it has been around for over forty years and is still performing in the real world. Can't be all that bad, even the U.S. would have replaced it by now if it was bad as people say.

if you or anyone you know has an M1A- I'd love to see a comparison. the .308 when combined with an accurized and properly bedded barrel makes for a sweet precision rifle system. When you use a high capacity semi auto rifle like an M1A or AR-10, it makes for a great backup sniper rifle. Accurate enough to reach out far- and fast enough to open up a whole case of whoop-ass when you need to.

I believe this merc is using an AR-10. The magazines might just look larger cause theyre closer to the mag, but I think they're 308. at 1:35 radio chatter from his spotter says that there are bad guys at about 800 meters, and that he cleaned them out.

Excellent choice :thumb: The Armalite has a chrome lined barrel, unlike the DPMS. I would really like to have one as well.
With the LWRC piston upgrade yor going to have an outstanding weapon. :D:

I have a socom2 I like but much to heavy for real combat. It is a real tack driver with a 4 x12 falcon on it will hit steel all day at 800 yard. I would say both are nice but I am getting a Armalite ar 10 off to Birdsong for a USMC smear camo . I am thinking about a m76 Yugo in 3006 but both the 308,s would out shoot it I am dumping a bunch of rare ak kits to build myself a new sniper rife good lord 10.000 after getting glass but I am planning on a tac ops rifle most like in 300 mag or 300 rum I have a 338 rum with a mcree stock and meopta 4x14 it shoots real well but ammo is steep and hard to find. I have a 7mm stw in the works my 2nd one.

I have an NM M1A, a custom Armalite AR10, and an Aero/Rainier AR10 build about half complete.

Out of all of them I would take the AR10, mainly because it scopes and handles so much better than the M1A for the weight. Accuracy between the two is moot.

Out of the two AR10s I would take the Aero because it takes DPMS style mags and has lighter rails.

The rifle in the video is 5.56, google travis haley najaf rifle.

I am looking to venture into the AR-10 world, I have heard good things about the DPMS G2 rifles. Still have to get my hands on one which is tough given the state I live in...may want to check them out as well.

Why not just get a quality AR-10 from Colt, KAC, or Larue( team guys use these a ton over the SCAR)?

The Larue especially would be cheaper than all that custom BS and so far there is no proof an op rod is better than DI, and especially drop in conversions. Hell the Larue was selected to be used instead of the SCAR by numerous SFG.

The LMT 308MWS is also another option, one which outperformed HK, FNH, and one other in the british trials in all categories(reliability, durability, and accuracy).

I do always enjoy the hur dur AK better dan AR so let me drop in a half ass conversion, that way I can make myself feel better about false errorwebz informations.

Congratulations! I once owned an Armalite AR10 with their 20" medium heavy SPR upper that I free floated, and a 16" pencil barreled carbine upper. This was back when CMI started to make mags for them. Anyway, nice rifle, but I sold the complete pkg. to fund a MK14 Mod 1 build :)
