Ariel Sharon, the general-turned-politician who inspired both love and hate as one of Israel's most controversial leaders, is reported dead at the age of 85, after eight years in a coma.

Israeli media first reported Sharon's death Saturday afternoon, but there has been no official state announcement yet.

The former Israeli prime minister, known as the "bulldozer" for his bold tactics, became incapacitated after a devastating stroke at the peak of his political power.

Its a sad day. He did a lot for Israel and its people. He was a brilliant military commander and a true patriot. I wish Israel had more leaders like him these days. Things would be very different.

Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri who died at the age of 108 left a sealed envelope to be opened one year after his death. Rabbi Kaduri had claimed to have met the Messiah who according to the Rabbi was Jesus Christ. The envelope contained a prophecy that the Messiah would come shortly after Ariel Sharon death.
