So, here we are, discussing out preps, how much rice, beans, soup, soap, toilet paper, ad nauseum. Over on the gun boards they proudly report all there new AKs, ARs, Glocks, thousands of rounds of ammo. And all this very important personal information is freely available to anyone with a dial-up Internet connection. But our anonymity is safe...right?? We're all hiding behind cool screen names. Big brother would never be able to find you right??

Some may actually have secure Internet connections, but most do not. What makes you think the government, at some level, isn't keeping recorded right now about who bought rice today and bragged about it on the Internet.

If, and when, food is rationed and hording made illegal, the authorities will know right where to go to find your goodies. And you were even kind enough to discuss the proper construction of PVC storage tubes and where and how to hide them.

I suspect that any hacker worthy of the name with enough resources could pick 10 members of any of these groups and within a few days have the names, addresses, phone numbers, SSANs, banking information, and if they take cream in their coffee information on 8 of them.

While I post here from time to time, I make no real attempt to hide my identity. The feds already know who and where I an every time I key up a radio. And I never discuss what guns, preps, rice, beans, or toilet paper, if any, I may or may not have (especially after that boating accident):taped:

So, tell me I'm wrong and all this data is really secure and I'll take of the tin foil hat.

I would not say you are wrong.

I don't see anyone coming for your food and camping gear but I do worry for those people who have posted their complete arsenal, their BOV, BOL location etc. You just never know what the future holds. Talking here is fun but it is a very public place and should be viewed as such.

For me, I have no worries because if someone wants some of my goat cheese - well they can have it.

A wise man once said to me 'if you don't want something to be misconstrued or used against you then do not write it down'. He was referring to emails from a work account, but it could go for a BB too.

I think that yes some people here are painting giant bullseyes on themselves. But maybe most of it is all talk.

One other thing - back when I was with my ex and he had guns for hunting - we kept it very hush hush. It was more to keep our neighbors from robbing us than anything.

I can't imagine proclaiming on the internets that you have guns. It seems *risky* somehow.

That said, we don't have guns we have goats. We're kind of boring. So if the SHTF I'll knit socks and cook some vigilante guys food if they'll come protect us ;)

N3HCP, I'm sure there are other ways the .gov could figure out what you have if they really wanted to, or more importantly even cared to, rather than hanging on your every word posted on a web forum.

I doubt the government is interested in how much toilet paper I have in the house. But if they are I'd tell them I buy enough of it to cover the return trip of all the rice and beans I buy and eat throughout the year.

Now on to a better reason to keep a bit of anonymity on this site would be to prevent thieves and moochers from knowing who's home has what items in it. I intend to discuss with others survival topics which include cooking, security, firearms etc... and I don't need a local tool knowing where to pick up some used rifles while I'm at work. Or Unprepared people who know me and now know I have such and such cans of food.

You have a point. However I'm not sure anyone would take the time to single people out just for storing rice and weapons. I'm sure "they" are much more interested in the pinheads who run around bleating "Fight The NWO" and calling the rest of us shills and sheeple.

If you mind your own business and get on with with your life I can't imagine you'll have many problems. We are still a nation of laws, the people who work for the empire are not all sinister agents of death who can't wait to drag you off to FEMA camps.

If you're hinting or even openly talking about violent resistance, rest assured, you'll probably get the chance, and you'll escalate a situation that didn't need to happen, because your stupid. You have no leadership, no lawyers guns and money, no organization that isn't already infiltrated or even led agents and no concept of what you would do when the bullets start flying.

They won't waste time with you.

No you are not wrong, and there is no such thing as being anonymous on the internet. There are a few exceptions, but you can be tracked down very quickly.. especially by government or law enforcement.

The real question is.. would they care? Would they care if one person has a couple hundred pounds of rice, or another has enough toilet paper to last 5 years? I know there are some that believe we a step away from a Mad Max scenario, or that big brother will come kicking in our doors any minute and take any food that isn't cleverly hidden. But I am not one of them.

Are they watching this board? I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they were. But I think they would probably be looking for any loonies that are close to flying off the deep end with plans to attack the government, compared to those who are simply preparing for disasters and possible tough times ahead.

Before they went after your food and supplies they would go after the distributors, and then the supermarkets, and then the small variety stores and 7-11's. If things ever got that bad, you would have to worry more about the rioting, killing and mayhem long before a knock on the door by men driving black SUVs.

Just my opinion of course.

 There are a lot of black SUVs in my town. I have always thought it a bit mysterious. Maybe they want my goat cheese!
Or my Kraft Dinner! ..or I think ya'll call it macaroni and cheese. Yea, they always drive black SUVs in the movies. So if it's in the movies it must be true ;)

When it gets so bad in this country that the government starts going after people on "lists", Then it should be all patriots goal to be number 1 on that list. Looking into history, you will be in good company.

If you really want to scare yourself get a program like peerguardian.

It blocks various IP addresses that try to communicate with your computer while you are online.

98% of these "hits" are just normal chatter.

Normally my computer gets about one hit every minute or so.

But go to certain websites, or type certain words into a search engine and you all of a sudden start getting hits from DoD computers, etc. And they dont try just once or a few times. They will hit your computer literally a thousand times in a few seconds.

Yes it is a FACT that you are being monitored.

If it gets that bad, it will probably be BECAUSE of "patriots" trying to get on a "list".

This is a SURVIVAL board. Wet dreams about combat against the government aside, mall comandos engaging well supplied and trained professionals do not have a great life expectancy.

If you know for certain innocent people are being dragged out of their homes BY ANYONE, you have a reason to respond. Otherwise mind your own business and SURVIVE.

If you assume your own military is the enemy, you've got serious issues. I've said it a hundred times. They'll take their M4's home before going door to door. If you start shooting at them, they'll be pissed off and kill you first.

The a$$clowns who envision themselves in a Red Dawn world standing on top of an M1A2 after victory against the "evil NWO" are imbeciles and will only give the empire an excuse to crack down on the rest of us.

There will not be a revolution won by some gaggle of twits with their Cheaperthandirt.com tacticool gear. The empire will heard them into a valley and decimate them. If there is a successful revolution it will be done with the proper combination of lawyers, guns, and money, and it may not end in our favor. So don't be in such a hurry, you might not like how it ends.

I am sure it is easy for the Guv to find every one of us. heck, this forum system records the IP address of every poster. anyone with Admin privileges can see that, and find you with simple, free software. Just google "IP trace" and see how easy it is.

The real question, as mentioned above, is this:

Are we interesting targets too the Guv.

Well, in my case I highly doubt it. I have some camping gear and Archery equipment, big wuptidoo... Millions of people have that.

But when someone comes on and starts talking about thier secret compound, and Survival retreat, complete with gun range, describes the area, and even posts the zip code (you know I was on Google earth that second!!) now thier ears are at full attention.

You know, I suspect the Guv could care less about basic, common "stock up for a rainy day" type preppers. They probably would encourage it. We are one less loony to deal with when riots break out. We will be quietly out of sight, out of thier hair, and not making headaches for them by engaging in massive anarchy in the urban areas.

If you put yourself in thier shoes, and try and see it from thier perspective, it's the totally unprepared, or the Militantly prepped to over throw the Guv types that they worry about.

Actually, if you look at the last 2 or 3 administrations, the great revolutionary battle has ALREADY happened.....and we lost...

I don't worry too much about the Gov. eavesdropping on forum chatter. Go to ready.gov. seems to me they actually are promoting being prepared.

They know, just as we do that there is not a whole lot they can really do for people caught in a disaster. So the more people who are prepared the better off it is for everyone.

Just got to remember this is a public forum and be guided accordingly...

Well I live in a country where all the legally owned firearms are registered so I quite happy to talk about mine.
There's not much I can do if SHTF and the government decides it's too dangerous for me to keep my guns.
More than likely though if SHTF the government will probably be too worried about it's own skin to be worried about me and my tiny arsenal.

I would argue it goes back a lot farther. However, I'm sure we both agree our Constitution has been subverted, to our detriment, for a very long time. I still believe it's possible to reverse the trend, and there has been some progress.

"Progressive" politics is a misnomer. The left wing socialism is not progress unless you think gulags helped the USSR, and they certainly have done nothing but reduce individual freedom.
