One thing about the Aquamira Frontier Pro Water Filter - I'am pretty impressed by how versatile it is. Its lite weight, portable, easy to use, easy to clean and has no moving parts.

I received this filter from Readypro and its going to be my sons filter. On a recent hiking trip this past weekend, we took it along and used it in a real world wilderness setting. We were several miles from the nearest house, and about a mile from where we had parked the truck.

Unlike some water filters that have levers to pump the water and can get clogged up - this unit has no moving parts and no pump action to stop working.

It can be used to drink straight from the water source, or fill the canteen with water from the stream and use the filter to drink from the canteen or water bottle.

I have one in each of my BOBs, as well as my "regular" pack and "core" kit. I like it because it is compact, lightweight, and doesn't take up much room.

I added one of these to the pack in my car. The first time I used it I was amazed at how easy the water flowed up from the straw and like Cory said it was like drinking from a straw and not through a filter.

Aquamira also makes the little Frontier filtered straw. I found a bunch of them at Sportsmans for $7.99 each. I think that's wholesale so you might take advantage.

Heck yea, you gotta expose them kids to all kinds of stuff while they are young. That way they are stronger later in life.

Does anyone know to specifically what EPA / NSf / ANSI standard(s) this filters or purifies water?

I see that is removes 99.9% of Cryptosporidium and Giardia, but what else (chemicals and odors) and to what level?

I see someone said it will handle 50 gallons. Where does one find that info? I couldn't find it on their website.

I use Aquamira drops for purification. I considered this straw, but decided against it when I realized that the pore size is 2 microns. That is big enough to allow some things through. I guess it would be fine for an emergency, when you had to take a chance, but I would still just boil the water to be safe. Might end up picking one up anyways.

I have spoken with owner of Aquamira, he has told me that the filter will actually filter about 100 gallons, but to be safe they said 50 gallons. The Frontier Pro filters to .03 microns. The military has been purchasing them for special ops.

This filter removes particles down to 3 microns (not .03)which is big enough for some smaller bacteria to get through. Giardia can be as small as 1 micron. Whether or not the small amount of baby bacteria that may be able to get through this filter will get a person sick is questionable.

I have one and have used it once in the field with no ill effects. But Ideally a filter that goes down to at least .5 microns will trap ALL bacteria, but no viruses.

Nah, the chemical will kill everything. Chlorine dioxide is incredibly unstable and reacts with the cell wall, pretty much killing everything. I boil my water in camp, as constantly making fires is good practice.

Sorry Mychoads my head was somewhere else it should have read 3microns, but because of the design of thier filter you cannot get a true micron rating. There test is a live test with giardi and crypto to determine what actually gets though.
