It's been quiet here lately so I thought I would find out what people are growing. The last few days it's been in the high twenties which has done wonders for my garden. Not so good for mushrooms but that's another story.
Today we picked the first ripe strawberry. Swedish strawberries are the best I ever tasted. The raspberries have small green fruits and the red and black currants and the gooseberries are just starting to colour. I am going to be pretty busy making jam and jelly soon.
We've been getting some peas from the greenhouse for the last two weeks. I am afraid the heat will kill them soon. It was an experiment anyway. I also planted some little gem lettuce which we have been eating one or two a week for the last month. I am really happy with this variety and will grow it again next year.
The zucchini is growing like mad and the very first tiny flower buds are appearing. The snow and garden peas in the main garden are getting quite high too but now flowers yet. The fava and borlotti beans are also growing well but no flowers.
As for tomatoes, the Glaciers have set fruit first. They are still green but some have reached maximum size. They are quite small but grow vigorously in pots. If they taste any good I will plant them next year as I am quite pleased with their earliness.
The silverbeet (chard) is looking nice but small yet.
We have had a very busy spring so we are rather behind in planting. I still haven't put in the cuke and watermelon seedlings and some of my tomatoes are getting rootbound in their pots.
I could go on but these are the highlights. What is everyone else doing?
