any reccomendations for 5.56/.223 rifle

Alright, I tried searching so I apologize if this is a double post,

But I was wondering if there is any one on here who owns or has used (frequently) more than one brand of rifle/model of rifle which utilizes the 5.56/.223 rounds. And can provide input on their preferences and why they prefer that rifle.

bonus points if it accepts the same mags as the AR-15.

I'm partial to sig, and S&W.

thanks

PS: not interested in hearing about AK/AK variants or any thing of the sort unless its chambered 5.56/.223
PPS: I have settled on a S&W 915 as a side arm, because its almost identical to my dads service pistol which I enjoyed shooting and has been reliable for him if you have critique on this one as well please speak up.

I have shot Gas guns since 1979 and never had one part failure......own 3 gas guns and never an issue...whoever thinks gas guns are unreliable has not done much shooting....The H&K is the benchmark of AR's....If Navy Seals carry it, nothing else needs said, is it expensive ? Yes, is it possibly the best AR platform ever built ? Yes....are there plenty of other good AR's ? yes....IMO S&W makes one of the best, I have two and they have been flawless, and they are gas guns.....
Navy Seals used to carry S&W Revolvers. I'm not rushing out to buy one. The HK416 is a step back from many platforms for many people's intentions.

While no style of gun is totally flawless, The AR with its DI gas system has proven its worth time and again. Will some be junk? Sure, but every make and model out there produces a lemon from time to time.

Is a piston system more reliable? I think it is, but its splitting hairs. Sure its "more" reliable, but that hardly makes the DI guns unreliable.

An extreme dirt test between AR and AK. AR wins, surprisingly.
Unless you are planning to engage in 1000+ round firefights, there are no advantages to a piston operated AR. The DI has worked for 50 years in the AR/M16 family. Any quality AR with direct impingement will serve you well. Colt, DD, BCM, Spike's and PSA are good options for a quality AR. Key to the AR system is a quality BCG and barrel. Find an AR with a chrome-lined barrel in either 1-7", 1-8" or even 1-9" twist and a chrome-lined M16 carrier with staked carrier key and Carpenter 158 bolt that's magnetic particle inspected like this BCM and you're in business.

The piston operated AR has more reciprocating mass, additional and non-standardized parts. Some designs also suffer from carrier tilt.

If the world went to crap and you needed replacement parts for your DI AR, there will literally be parts everywhere.

I'm partial to "Retro A1 Ar's" ,fun to build, parts are easy to find and they are light weight for the ladies in our life to use.

Followed up with a colt 3x20 or 4x20 optic, you can have a rifle that is chambered in 5.56 for under a thousand bucks give or take.

I agree with others on here, don't discount the mini-14.

with a "hogue overmolded stock" & a leupold mark ar optic with the "bdc" bullet drop compensator dial for a .223/5.56 55 gr bullet, you have yourself a nice rifle.
