I watched this show on the Travel Channel where some guy in Spain was planting oak trees in his free range pig and cow pastures. Both animals eat acorns and they used the barley spouts they grew on site.

The meat that came from the acorn and barely sprout fed animals tasted better. There was another guy who was feeding his pigs junk walnuts and spoiled beer. That too, affected the taste of the meat for the better.

Here in Spain there are classifications for pork based on acorn consumption. The most expensive pork here is fed exclusively acorns. There is a highly notable difference in taste (for the better). Producing great pork is one thing the Spanish really can do well.
