Anyone here have or use a fire-lance? If so, is it good and do you reckon it can act as a basic SHTF hunting and defence weapon? I've not seen any round here yet so I figured I'd make the call.

Fire lance... for hunting?? Uhh, if yer gonna 'go all 13th Century', Imo, you'd serve yourself much, Much better with a Good, Solid Longbow and appropriate Arrows (which Can also 'deliver Fire', if / as-appropriate..) ¯\(ツ)

Yeah, but you get that burnt fur smell in the food. Ugh. lol

Gotta remember that there are times when the side effects of a weapon are as important as the primary effects. I do not know anyone that wants to be attacked with any type of flame weapon. So, a bit of fire coming out the front end, along with the shot, is not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, they even make purpose-built shotgun shells that produce a long flame.

Also, as a primitive weapon, fire lances can be made from non-metallic parts, so no metalworking to speak of is required.

And, just as I am with food, where I plan to start the garden up again as soon as it appears something is a long term situation, and transportation where I plan to conserve commercial fuel and start using alternatives, with weapons, where a more primitive weapon will do a job I need to be done, I will save modern cartridges and components for those times when I really need to use them, and use one of the primitive items. With the good stuff at hand in case things change suddenly.

Just my opinion.
