I had one, back when you could get them for less than $300.

It was the most accurate rifle I'd owned, and boy could that thing throw the brass...

One day it started acting up and it never worked right again. I ended up trading it straight across for a New-ish Ruger m77 stainless 30-06 at a pawn shop.

It was also a pain to clean if I remember correctly. But it sure was a nice rifle when it worked.

I had to replace several parts to get my bolt gap in spec, but when I did it became a joy to shoot. It's accurate, rugged and the recoil is light enough that my nine year old son enjoys shooting it.

CETME? I think you mean FIXME.:)
Can't argue with that, but once you fix what the idiots at century messed up you have a great rifle.Just don't buy one if you don't want to tinker with it.
It's kind of like buying an old car and fixing it up. When you're through you might end up with something better than a new one.

I like them, but if I were to get a weapon of that nature, I'd go ahead and save the cash for a PTR-91. They're nearly 3 times the cost of a Century CETME, but I don't have to worry about the quality or the reliability of them, and that's worth a fortune to me.

I had to learn a bit about this gun and it's a nice and accurate gun. Not one of HK's finest functioning, and it does kick a whole bunch, but usually one shot is all you need with this gun. It's that powerful. Top of the post and pull the trigger. Simple. Heavy too. I don't think I've seen any for sale around here, but I'd buy one. I don't think you can import, so who is building them stateside?

Two of my friends have them, great to shoot. Neither of them are very good at getting the bolt apart for cleaning, so I usually end up having to show them (they pretty much have the hang of it, now). If it weren't for the weight and cost of ammo, I'd pick on up. But since I have two at my disposal... all I hafta do is get some ammo and I can put however much I like downrange. The magazines are cheap, too.

I have a Century, works perfect...now:) I had to fix all thier foul ups, then it worked perfectly.

A guy explained to me how Centruy arms builds all their rifles. See if I can remember right:

Start w/ a good parts kit made in another country by people who know what they're doing. Put it in a box. Add one half a22 made receiver. A dash of cheap US made parts. Then let one of their one armed, blind chimpanzies shake vigorously for 10mins. Pour and allow to cool.:D

New cetme owner

I just picked up a cetme and so far i like it. its not as user friendly as my ar's or ak. i had to take a little off of the mag release because my mags kept falling out, but it shoots good and its fun to tinker with.

ive had mine since ..umm....01'-02'...put 5k+ thru her..no issues...good rifle.. wish it was like a real choppo..that mag release sucks for fast mag changes.
Here's a suggestion: http://www.taclatch.com/default.asp

This can be installed without modifying any components, or touching the FCG "shelf". Supposedly runs just over $50.00 FRN. Otherwise, you could hook up with a known good gunsmith, and have him re-install the paddle-mag release ($$$).

I've got a couple CETME's and PTR-91's. ALL FUN!!! :D

...your mileage may vary.
