Boy they didn't waste any time. I read the synopsis for the SC law and here is the kicker:

"Section 23-31-620. (A) All handgun and assault weapon ammunition manufactured or sold in this State after January 1, 2010, must be coded by its manufacturer.

(B) No later than January 1, 2012, all noncoded ammunition owned by private citizens and retail outlets must be disposed."


MUST BE DISPOSED! don't they mean given up????

So far, thank jesus, Ga hasn't introduced a bill. But thanks to all the crime in N Ga (Atlanta area) I'm sure it won't be long.

Or are special batches being made for export?
Remember we have restrictions on how much we can own. The proposal for you guys could be another way of tracking who buys how much and maybe restrictions on amounts.

This is correct, been around for awhile now.

I've only recently become aware of this legislation. So far I am not aware of any bill being considered in my state, Nevada (where it would have a snowballs chance in hell) but this would raise ammunition prices SIGNIFICANTLY. Honestly I think other issues will sideline this in the very near future, but it shouldnt be ignored. (Following is my recollection, not word for word)

Each bullet in a box of ammo must have the same serial number on the bullet AND the casing. No two boxes of ammunition from one manufacturer shall use the same number. The engraved number on the bullet must be engraved in such a place and manner that it will likely be verifiable after impact.

The cost of such a process will be huge, IMO. Any ideas on what kind of production cost increases manufacturers would see, and what price increases would we see on the consumer end?

I hope this is all moot.

Its pretty stupid as well since all bullets end up with rifling marks that identify THE SPECIFIC GUN they were fired in, but all casings do exactly the same thing with the gouging from the action.

This is ignorance in the extreme.

I've read about this awhile ago and emailed by state reps about their position on it. I've only received one response so far and the rep told me he would not be voting for it.

And then you'd HAVE to make sure you put the right bullet in the right brass!
Think they'd probally just outlaw it!
