I'm in the beginning stages of stocking up on ammo. Got the food preps headed in the right direction ... just need to protect it.

I wanted to stock up slowly but was at Walmart today (I know, I know) and they are out and have been out of ammo since the election and have no idea when they will be getting more in.

Researching online it seems stocking up on ammo slowly is no longer a good idea. I found a site where I can get 1,000 rounds for my .380 for $205. Is this a good price or should I continue to search? Since I'm so new at this and considering the current conditions I'm not sure what's good and what's rip off.

You're talking about $.20/round or $10/box of 50. That's pretty good for range fodder and very good for defense ammo.

The price is not the worst. I usually buy at a gunshows. I can usually get the internet price or less without shipping charges.

Does the brand matter? What I've found for the .380 is Wolf and I've read good and bad about it. I've read it's best for "plinking" but I'm not much of a plinker. I want this for defense.

when ordering pay close attention to shipping some of these site will show a lower price than others, but when you get to the shippping it will be VERY high that how they make up the differance and you end up paying more. i would lean to hollow points when getting ammo

I think that most anti-Wolf folks are AR shooters, when you shoot the most overpriced, inherently flawed(gas inpigement??come on) weapon ever devised, cheap ammo won;t work well. It only figures, you buy a 1200 dollar rifle and it's gonna take the bank-breaking ammo, too! Wolf is fine. I have shot countless rounds through my Bersa thunder. I am of the FMJ school of thought for rounds less than 9mm Parabellum. A JHP may not poke 'em quite deep enough. Buy the wolf. Youl love it. It goes bang every thime, it's what the comm-bloc countries issue to the military, it;s water proof, and most of it is loaded pretty stout.

the best price I could find was cheap wolf brand russian ammo for $249.99 for 1000rds so yes that sounds pretty good.

Get some premium ammo like Speer Gold Dot or Federal Hydra-shok.

I was thinking -to save on the cash- I could buy 1/2 and 1/2, cheap target rounds and hollow points. Then I could alternate them in the magazines under the assumption I wouldn't just shoot the offending once-so he/she would be shot a handful of times, each shot that makes contact at least slowing and wounding, and every other one really hurting and wounding.

Then there is the issue of the cheap target round blowing through the target and potentially wounding the wrong person.

Of course, I don't know enough to know if this is a viable option but would assume if any .380 would work, they could be alternated in one magazine.

yeah, the Federal Powershok ammo (8MM) I bought for my Mauser was the most expensive, but was pretty much the most impressive round I fired through it so far. I keep a couple of boxes for future hunting trips, etc.

I am not too sure what you are asking but first in the event it comes to pass would you risk your life and that of your loved ones on cheap ammunition? Secondly there are no reasons to have target ammunition in your magazines, after target practice you clean your weapon and load defense loads in your magazines. And lastly once you start shooting you do not stop shooting until the threat has stopped. You do not shoot them to rag dolls but you do not shoot them once and then assume all is well, at least double tap or three rounds and then assess, especially with .380.

Also at least once a year practice with the ammunition you will use as defense ammunition, you do not want to learn your weapon jams on that ammunition when the SHTF.

that all depends on how much you order. what i did was to let all my friends know i was going to order from there and if they wanting anything i could add it to my order to save them shipping i was ordering over $250 worth so shipping doesnt get any higher if you order any more. well they ordered enough to where it was the same price if i got a membership so i got the membership at no extra cost. it really depends how much you plan on spending in the next year if it is worth it, but when you buy your membership you get a good discount on that order so make it a big order :thumb:
