I was in the Army for 8 years and have had a lot of time on the firing range with the M-16 and other weapon systems. I didn't buy my first AK untill after I got out of the Army and I immediately fell in love with it.
My AMD-65 has Ultimak handguards, Tango Down vertical grip, Tapco pistol grip and an Aimpoint Comp M4 red dot sight with A.R.M.S. QD scope mount. It is quite accurate too, even with Iron sights.
The only downside is the folding wire stock. I don't have any place to rest my cheek for good sight alignment and its rather nose heavy since it doesn't have a wooden stock for counter balance.
For some time I have debated on going to the welder and having a piece of bar stock welded to the existing stock to fix this issue but i didn't know a welder who I could trust to do a good job and then there is also the issue of having to repaint the stock and the new addition.
On a whim, I decided to search around on the internet and see if there were any AMD-65 stock mods and that's how I found this site which had exactly what I was looking for: www.amd65tech.com. (Ok, the guy's not a web developer; the site is pretty rough but that's ok with me as long as its legit and his products are good quality).
I was thrilled to find a stock mod that simply bolted on to the existing stock and also has sling loops you can buy!
Here are some pics of my AK before and after along with the parts I recieved.
I just installed it and haven't had it out to the range yet, so I will keep you posted on how it performs, but I suspect it will be just what I need. So far, so good.
