Hello everyone. I have visited here from time to time. I'm constantly looking to learn everything I can that will improve my little homestead. There is a lot of interesting topics here. Before registering, I spent quite a bit of time in the food and water and gardening sections. Really good information. I usually don't post much. I'm more of a reader and researcher because I find that old saying to be true, "If you're talking, you're not learning."

I figured I would register in case I had questions from real life homesteaders that might not be answered while reading through the topics. I'm sure I have already read them, but if you all have some go-to topics on the forum related to how to maintain a healthy garden, please feel free to post them here. There might have been something I missed. My garden has been the biggest hurdle that I've had to get over because I have good and bad years. Some years it produces a lot, and some years no matter what I do, the bugs and birds get the bulk of my labor.

Off topic a bit, I do have a couple questions in regards to how the forum functions:

1. I see flags by the members names. How do I put a flag by mine?
2. I also see under their names where some say registered, while others have a unique title. Is that something I can do as well, or is it only offered in the premium package?

Have a great day and thanks for any assistance you can provide. :)

Hello everyone
Hello and welcome.

Yours has an American flag.

... I also see under their names where some say registered, while others have a unique title. Is that something I can do as well, or is it only offered in the premium package?
I monkeyed with mine years ago, I think it was under your profile where you can setup a signature, maybe?

The flags automatically show up based on where you are posting from. There is a way to remove them but I would need to go look at your profile settings to remember....

The title under your name can be changed by any mod or admin. Just let one know what you want it to say and as long as it is not violating a rule it can be done fairly quickly.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.
Thank you! I didn't know that the flag showed up automatically. No, no. The flag is fine. I just thought I had to add it manually. As for the title under my name, I would just like it to read Always Learning. :)

I will contact a moderator later as soon as I figure out how. :D

Henry,

Welcome to the Forum and the Survival Boards as a registrant.

I'm a real life homesteader with a homesteader group. We are of a different type. We do net fishing and harvesting maritime botany. Waterproof box with permits gets heavy.

It assists Forum Members planning to provide you with info to know your basic locale involving the topogrphy and geography. This can be accomplished with out intruding on your privacy.

Again, a warm welcome.

The word ‘banned’ under a members name is usually a good way to tell they will not be replying

Welcome aboard!! Gardens are like that actually, it's a long learning curve and, if you move from one place to another it will likely vary yet again. My "advice" works in any growing zone. I recommend new gardeners be very selective at first-- choose 3 types of veggies that you know you like to eat. Get really good at those 3, including prepping for storage and saving seeds. Add more with each success. Make sure you have fun while doing it too or it becomes a wicked chore!
