This is to compliment dillgaf's thread.
Here are some other alternate building materials and methods, some used for 100's of years, and some more modern from materials while they are still available.

Adobe / mud bricks

Brick making machine or press

Eco dome

More modern material called paper crete, this is while material requirements are still available.

Using a tow mixer, but fuel is an issue. So an improvised hand or electric mixer might be an alternative.

Fire test of paper crete.

Other building materials are earth filled tyres, rock walls or more specifically dry rock walls.

Rock walls for vege or small crop gardens.

Don't forget the good ol' strawbale house.
I helped build 'earthships' in Colorado while I was there. They are great. Rammed earth tyres. Very labour intensive but people either pay you to take the tyres away or they give them to you so your building materials are FREE.

There is a straw bail house house down the highway from us, not fully completed yet but looking good.
Did have a video on rammed earth tyres but over looked it.
If cement rendering mesh or hessian walls, have been told to mix milk powder with it to make the rendering water proof. Haven't tried it myself but have seen it done.

You know the Prickly Pear that we get growing wild around here Dragon?
Apparently you can mulch them all up in a 44 gal drum with water and the resulting mixture can be used as waterproofing.
