David Stockman, former budget director for Ronald Reagan spells it out plain and simple in the USA Today. He is sharp and knows his stuff.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/story/2012-03-03/david-stockman-says-economic-disaster-lurks/53339644/1

"The consequences are horrendous. If you could make the world rich by having all the central banks print unlimited money, then we have been making a mistake for the last several thousand years of human history."

Q: You sound as if we're facing a financial crisis like the one that followed the collapse of Lehman Bros. in 2008.
A: Oh, far worse than Lehman. When the real margin call in the great beyond arrives, the carnage will be unimaginable.
Q: How do investors protect themselves? What about the stock market?
A: I wouldn't touch the stock market with a 100-foot pole. It's a dangerous place. It's not safe for men, women or children.
Q: Do you own any shares?
A: No.

Take it for what you want.

Like my title says take it for what you want. David Stockman is a very credible source, and he does really know what the hell is going on. He is not the first to say this, and he wont be the last. We have been hearing this same warning for years now. What has the fed done about it nothing. Plenty of people put the blame on the Obama administration, but the problem was happening well into George W Bush first term. I would hate to walk into a Hot Ass Mess with people expecting me to fix it all of a sudden with no support from either side. Not that Obama has all the right answer or made the best decisions. The bottom line is that the Fed, The Government is on some super shady stuff. With no plans on changing their ways. The experts are saying it the people are saying so what will we do about it. Stop blaming the President, Congress, Democrats, Republicans.

We all our already lost.

Prepare yourself and hang on for the ride!!!!!!

I expect to read stuff like that on ZeroHedge; I'm really quite surprised that USA Today would publish something like that.

I wonder what that means--are more people waking up, even in the MSM?

Cynically I'd think they're trying to poach Right leaning readership to boost their sales, but like I said; I'm cynical of any MSM.

The only stock I own is for the company I work for and my pillaged and destroyed 401k. If I lose them, then meh - they sucked in value anyway

Thank godness there does exist voices of reason. I've been saying this all along, the finger pointing has to stop. There is no one party to blame except the whole government dems, repubs, libs etc. They are all a bunch of dirty crooks with nothing but there own interests at heart. Any other train of thought is niave and ignorant.

"The Republican Party has totally abdicated its job in our democracy, which is to act as the guardian of fiscal discipline and responsibility. They're on an anti-tax jihad -- one that benefits the prosperous classes." - David Stockman
Yeah, us "prosperous" are dragging the country down by earning money, buying stuff, paying our bills, not taking "entitlements" from the government and providing jobs. We're just evil that way.

I was talking to my brother about this yesterday. Capital preservation is a solid plan but holding all cash with a few bars of PMs seems like the worst idea. He states he is avoiding risk but he fails to realize (or at least say) that one good bout of inflation wipes out his purchasing power if it is all in USD. I get risk aversion but he isn't avoiding it by being all cash, unless of course some of that cash is foreign which he didn't mention.

Mmmm.... Cash or precious metals? Keep a little of one, and more of the other.

You can't print more precious metal. It has to be worked for to be created. It takes resources and manpower to dig the stuff up and refine it. It is rare, beautiful and useful, especially silver.

He has been on PBS where they were promoting the book "crony capitalism". PBS is also a "liberal" news source.

I think the roles are reversed now in some ways. The "conservative" news is actually mainstream and sold itself out to the powers that be. They rarely report anything that certain powerful people would object to. At the start of the election I remember FOX News completely blanked out Ron Paul and wouldn't mention him. Only after they absolutely had to do it did they acknowledge him. They also wont talk about any of the real problems in Washington seriously. They are too focused on ratings and advertising revenues and propaganda.

PBS is non-profit so more "high brow" doesn't care about ratings. not sure why mainstream liberal news is suddenly speaking the truth. Maybe the situation has become serious enough where they can't hide it anymore (much like the Ron Paul thing).

May sound goofy but I get more out of listening to MPR then I do the cable news channels. Its scary but I feel they're more conservative then Fox News. I stopped listening to the AM radio conservatives awhile ago as well when I figured out there one step away from fart jokes. I still dont think Republican should be a bad word its just the current form of them thats the issue.

In order to destroy something or delegitamize it you pose as it and make it seem silly. I believe Nietzsche wrote about it.

So let's say you are a Communist who hates America. What's the best way to destroy it? Pose as a politician and get elected to office. Pretend to be working in the nations interests. Really you want to see American values fail one way or the other.

Want to destroy conservatism? Act like one yourself and act like a total idiot. It makes the ideology seem stupid. And that's what I think is going on right now.

We have one party right now that controls media and politics: the corporate party. Same handful of people own everything and buy and sell politicians.

Check out these:

Books:

The Sovereign Individual Rees-Mogg

Intellectuals and Society: Thomas Sowell

Coming Apart: The State of White America by Charles Murray

Online Article:

Vision for the 21st Century by Hee-Sik Song (goes off in the spiritual realm but has some insights into Rees-Moggs argument that government power is breaking down and replaced with ethnic, corporate and mafia networks.

Magazine Article (can be found online):

The Crash of Western Civilization: The limits of the Market and Democracy by Jacques Attali- Foreign Policy (magazine), 107, summer 1997

Those who will be most suited for the upcoming collapse will be those who form their own networks independent of government.
