I know there have been several forums over this product but I further endorse it! Yo-yo automatic fishing reels take little space and very functional in a survival situation. Not only for fishing, but for snares as well.

I bought a pack of these things and they are just the neatest gadgets! I'll take them with me when I'm fishing and that thing would outfish me a few times. I usually take it to the falls with me which is a local swimming/fishing hole and attache it to a 20oz bottle and keep it underwater. I've caught many rockbass on it and there are days I am messing with the yo-yo more than my own fishing line cuz its always catching something and I would have to reset it!! Get you some Yo-Yos and go have fun and see if you agree!!

I had one, liked it, and on thursday I received my box of 12 that I had been looking at for a while. Ordered a gas mask molle pouch to put them in with the rest of my fishing gear, and I'll see how well they feed me next month.

Another DISCLAIMER is that they are illegal to use for fishing in some States. Check your local regulations.

I like limb lines better. But the yo yo is a good one for sure. They use them allot in Tennessee where I used to live.

I just ordered a couple as well. I'll give a good review on them after they arrive.
Thanks! we look forward to the review!!!

I would think 550 may be a little thick for it but if you can make it work..please share!! (even if it doesn't work as planned)

The nylon included is good for 60 pounds so as long as that small game is less than 60 pounds you should be able to secure it.
Excellent point Colt!!

Another good point! All you Missouri folk...its perfectly legal in Missouri. As a matter of the fact, the current MO State record Black Crappie caught using "Alternative Methods" was caught on a yo-yo. Check it out at the MDC Fishing Records Report

EVERYONE:
I also forgot to mention that the best hook for these little gadgets when you are playing with it are Circular Hooks; however, in a survival situtation smaller regular hooks should be sufficient

DISCLAMER: Same as last time + vicdotcom's contribution!!!

Well I'll be darned! You guys really think that much of these things? It is pretty funny that I find this thread, about 3 weeks ago I got a catalog that had 'em in it and had filled out my order blank for 3 of them! When I was a little boy some 45+ years ago (gulp) I would look at them in the back of my read, reread and rereread copies of Field and Stream and dream of getting some. Of course, I didn't have a penny to my name and so never got around to purchasing any. I believe I will get my order in tomorrow now! :D:

I was thinking about trying some of those out. They seem interesting and useful. But I also found the primitive application! I hope to try this out in the near future.

Hahaha how cool?

Yup. One of many types of limb line. Thinking about it, I knew guys in Minnesota who used a set up very smiler to this while ice fishing.

You might also want to take a look at the SpeedHook it's very lightweight and takes no room in your pack. It's also darn efficient and is in the cold weather survival kits of the Army, Coast Guard and several reserve units.

Nichalos82, in your home state are you allowed to have multiple fishing rigs going at the same time? I would not hesitate to do that in a survival situation (eat or die), but it is normally illegal in my home state.
Yes we are able to have multiple fishing rigs! The state record Black Crappie was caught on a yo-yo and is publsihed in the state record book. Regardless of method, we cannot have more than 33 hooks in the water at any given time

wow, interesting product! any luck with fishing with it?
I fish with these things alot at the falls. I usually catch rockbass (not left overnight) and there have been only a few times that the yo-yo engaged and didn't have a fish at the end! Quite honestly, I have more fun sometimes just watching the yo-yo catch fish!!! Its fairly inexpensive but effective!!!

The primitive application is good skill to know especially if you don't have a yo-yo! Given the 2 options though, yo-yo is super easy to set up and in a survival situation, you can set the yo-yo and go do other things. The good thing about it is that it wears out the fish for you (like drag on a fishing pole)! The yo-yo allows the fish to take it out but then it winds back in.

Man, I've'e harvested hundreds and hundreds of pounds of catfish on a trot line, and lots of Crappie on limb lines. But that yo yo thing looks fun and easy to pack and no limbs to cut!
