Hiking alone is never a good idea. You could twist and ankle and need help, among about 1000 other issues. I hope you gave a detailed plan and route to someone in case something happens. Just my 2 cents. Nature is unforgiving.

 

I got tangled up real good in a fallen barbed wire fence while out alone once. It was hidden in some long grass and I walked right into it and fell over. You don't realise what an inescapable and painful calamity a fallen barbed fence can be until you're wrapped in one. It pierces, twists, turns, rips and tears at all angles and the more you wriggle around the worse it gets. If you haven't got anything on you that you can reach to cut yourself free then there's a good chance you're gonna be stuck there unable to move.

I cut my leg up pretty good and managed to cut my clothing free of the thing but it took me a good 10 to 15 minutes. By some miracle there was no rust (tetanus) on the thing and I got back to camp and cleaned myself up after bleeding copiously.

I don't move unless I have my knives, mobile phone and first aid kit drop pouch strapped to my leg. If I'm going moving out of line of sight of camp the alice pack and sleeping bag come with me too - just in case.

Alright I am getting ready to pack up the car and head out
up into the mountains of NC for 3 days or so
A very remote piece of land that I have permission to camp & hike on , waterfalls , springs, caves , trails that seemingly don't ever end
I had several friends that had planned on going with me but most have backed out already so we we will see who all shows up to leave with me to go up there .
I will be taking some electronics so as long as signal permits I will be posting photos maybe videos as well

Two of the people that are coming with changed plans on me and are now supposed to be meeting me up there tomorrow morning we will see if that happens . Either way Im still heading that way . Alright Im gonna get back on the interstate now

I don't always take my own advice but anyone hiking or camping alone in remote areas should consider investing in a portable epirb beacon .
Just my opnion

Its too late now... but I was going to say, sounds like a great trip... BUT, if your going remote, that Henry .22 wont offer any protection... Make SURE you tote a .357. Seriously.
