Like many of you guys, I've been watching a fair amount of leaked/released footage from the war in Ukraine. I knew the Russian military was a step behind the US from several perspectives (especially their air force), but I was blown away just how amateurish their tactics have been. No wonder they've been experiencing so many casualties.

Anyway, about a week ago, I put together the top 7 tactical blunders I've seen based on the footage. It includes both Ukrainian and Russian blunders:

Here's the list in text:
1. Vehicles operating without infantry support
2. Soldiers 'Barrel Sweeping’ their squad/teammates
3. Patrols not checking corners and angles (clearing)
4. Civilians being way too casual
5. Long columns of mobile forces driving on a single roadway
6. Low utilization of cover
7. No camouflage for parked armor

From a survivalist standpoint, I believe there's some valuable lessons to be learned here, especially regarding operating as a guerrilla/occupied civilian. Any other tactical mistakes you guys have seen?

they have told us them, our media just completely fails to acknowledge this for the most part, they just say it is crazy - which it might be, but the way Western media covers this is a lie for the most part.

1. Ukraine neutral and not in NATO
2. Crimea recognized as Russian territory, was not historically part of Ukraine
3. Donbass and whatever the other coal or nrg rich area is that is occupied by Russians, for like 100 years
4. de Nazification of Ukraine, I think to Russia, this just means whoever is going to attack Russia, as has happened from Ukraine multiple times in history, resulting in deaths of 10s of millions of Russians, so - people call this Nazi question absurd, but if you think of what the person or people saying it think, it is not super complicated. Basically, I think it means, stop teaching your children to hate everything Russian; you know - cause that kind of thing creates genocides.
* End of fighting/war

These were Russia's terms before the war, that would have prevented the war, and they are the same today as far as I know. They are strikingly consistent about it, compared to our US Gov, that has to keep walking back almost every last thing the POTUS says, like he's mentally derainged, or our Gov. can-not what is the saying, tell their assholes from their elbows apparently.

Those terms is all the media should be talking about - all the time, because it is unlikely anything, but understanding them, and making real decisions about what terms will be acceptable, will end the war. I had to dig to find this list after the war started, and my take is still Ukraine should have just agreed, to save thousands of live and get Russia to withdraw its military. Then just reneg on the deal after. Like anyone would hold them to it, making a deal with a gun to their heads.

For some reason they are choosing pain and death, at a great cost to everyone, with millions of refugees. My fear is those US bio labs, and whatever funny business the US has been involved with in Ukraine is really driving the need for the war and for all those people's lives to be turned upside down, and a ton of dead people.

I don't trust the US Gov to begin with, the mentioned US funded bio labs and that's is just a red flag of mammoth proportions. Didn't we just kill a few million people with US funding a lab in China? Didn't that just happen. But, our media, oh yea, bio labs, those are fine, nothing to see there.

Most of the Russian Military is poorly trained and equipped conscripts or reservist. The US has an all volunteer force thats fairly well trained. Because of this, their leadership is high ranking officers with very little in the way of experienced NCO's to take charge and carry out an objective especially once they loose their leaders in combat. Thats not the case in most "Western" militarys as we have a very well developed NCO program and do a lot more training than Russians do. For example when it comes to their air force, they have great equipment on par with ours, but get about 8 hours of flight time a month on average. This is hardly enough to do more than maintain the skill to get it off the ground and navigate it and then land it. USN pilots get a hell of a lot more flight hours in a month than that just to get flight pay much less maintain their skills. Plus our pilots are often times training in actual combat manuvers as well as live ammo shoots on a very regular basis.

Another reason for heavy Russian losses, is the fact that they have monkeyed around in Syria for a few years and dont have a lot of precision guided munitions which forces their pilots to fly lower in order to score a higher percentage of hits on target with unguided munitions. This makes them sitting ducks for a stinger missile...a weapon I have a lot of experience firing and have made a few actual combat shoots with! When your coming over a hot target at about 400 mph and less than 1000 ft, even Helen Keller could score a hit!

Russians had assumed that once they drove across the border they would be welcomed in the Ukraine, and the locals would feed and refuel them. They attacked with no thought to refueling, re-loading with ammo and even providing meals to their troops.

I find this entire event hilarious. Our doctrine has always been that Russia is a super power. But in reality they are third-world pissants at best.

Why was there no discussion of how bad Russia's military was before? Russia has been in pretty much every conflict we have in the past 50 years. We've seen them fighting in the Middle East, Africa, etc. I've never heard a word about undisciplined or unprofessional behavior before this propoganda filled conflict in Ukraine. I call BS on literally anything I read about this conflict. Whatever 'fact' I read on it, I assume the opposite to be true.

Has been no "REAL" war since Korea - outside of the Israelis kicking arab butt several times and the US kicking Iraqi a couple times. In both of these theaters the Soviet/Russian tactical doctrine has been such a failure, as implemented by arabs, the failures has largely been chalked up to arab incompetence.

That you (like most of the current armchair generals) doesn't know diddly means little.

the poor quality of the Russian made equipment has been known for decades - used in the proxy wars all kinds of excuses were made >>> it's poor maintenance to incompetent usage ....

the Ukranians started getting top notch weapons when Prez Trump came onboard >>> the Green Berets went with the deal - cream of the crop Ukrainians were selected by motivation, intelligence and dedication to train & arm firstly ....

there's your difference >>> the four years Prez Trump held off Putin made all the difference in letting Ukraine prep ..

The US military was training UKR forces and providing military aid in the Obama era and although the Obama admin did not take advantage of the Ukraine Freedom Support Act the Trump admin was very cautious in the number and type of weapons being supplied and rightly or wrongly put sales and transfer or arms to Ukraine on a go slow. Bush, Obama , Trump or Biden had little influence on Putin's ambitions but there is one thing that does and it had a high price in 2008, 2014 and 2022

Putin Doesn’t Realize How Much Warfare Has Changed - The Atlantic

Tanks were a great symbol of strength during the Second World War. That Putin can still see them that way defies belief. The vehicles have proved to be profoundly vulnerable to drones and anti-tank weapons in recent conflicts in Libya and elsewhere; Azerbaijan’s ability to destroy Armenian tanks easily was essential to its 2020 victory in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

really surprised how poorly the Russian Army is doing

I think this is one of the most important observations from a survivalist standpoint. Knowing when to bug out, however, is such a touch call. I read a few interviews of Ukrainians days before the invasion and when asked if they were going to leave due to the Russian threat, they told the interviewer's that the potential for war was overblown.

And I get it; 99.9% of the time, whatever SHTF event we conceptualize never comes to fruition. But man, when it does manifest, it's better safe than sorry.

I appreciate your input but is there more to it than what we are seeing?

Our selected government officials, intelligence agencies and media all told us from the get go that Russia would be done in a 2-3 days..... so who's incompetent? Did we over estimate the strength of Russia or underestimate the resolve of Ukraine, how did WE get it so wrong, every "expert" said this would be a walk in the park for Russia how can we spend so much on our intelligence and get it so wrong? What else are we getting wrong?

I appreciate how highly you think of our troops (as do I) but we just had our butts handed to us by some goat herders in Afghanistan, we left with our tails between our legs bombing some volunteers that had nothing to do with the conflict killing 7 kids as we were retreating. We decide to bring thousands of people into our country for no apparent reason without screening them while leaving our allies and abandoning our citizens. I have a feeling that we left behind more military equipment in Afghanistan than Ukraine has.

how did WE get it so wrong
Because everybody was considering Russian raw power and total war was assumed. No one considered Russian military orders: to avoid civilian casualties. And this is not a total war, its rather as Russians call it: special military operation.
Lets see some facts:
  • UkrNAZI are winning media war big time.
  • Russia is winning REAL war, with minimal efforts, engaging minimal resources. Unfortunately, casualties are significant.
  • If Russia underestimated anything, that is the bloodthirstiness and the greed of the other side(s).
  • Russia deployed 150.000-200.000 troops.
  • UkrNAZI had 600.000-900.000 active military personnel armed men at the beginning, now maybe twice that many armed men. Did anyone asked himself why Russians moved forward with so undersized force/personnel?
  • UkrNAZI handed out guns and ammo to the citizens, who keep those in their apartments, making all the buildings and the houses legitimate military target. PERIOD!
  • Russian ground troops use old tanks. T-84, T-72 even T-64. Not indestructible Armata. Why?
  • Kindzal destroyed atomic blast shelter, w 300 western officers, deep underground and everything around it. So Russians showed that have it, and they can use it at will.
  • Small drone with the avionics bomb was flown from Ukraine all the way to Zagreb, (NAZI) Croatia, trough the 5 NATO countries air defenses and detonated over there in the city downtown. That says that they can send a drone in anyone's bedroom, all over the western Europe.
  • UkrNAZI gloating over Russians withdrawal around the Kyiv. That maneuver was one of the best maneuvers since WWII. UkrNAZI kept their forces tied there, while Russians were doing their thing on the south-east. Result = in a few days Russia took territory size of England.
  • UkrNAZI regrouped back to Kyev when Russians left, now they cannot go back to re-enforce 100.000 troops caught in so-called cauldron. Russians offered a life to every soldier who drop their weapons, only there is a problem: regular UKR soldiers (Russian origins) are led by the NAZI officers. Surrender is no option for them, they have no respect for the human life, and they treat their soldiers as dogs.
  • HarkOv, for example (not HarkIv, as UkrNAZI call that city) UkrNAZI just formed 3 battalions of the convicts, for violent crimes and extremely violent crimes from the prisons Alekseyevska and No.43, (Slabozanscina, Harkovcina-1, Harkovcina-2). Basically the armed animals, whose sole orders are to kill anyone and everyone who try to leave HarkOv and kill any soldier or destroy the unit who tries to surrender.
  • Someone thinks Putin did not take into account embargo? Fortified $300 billion of Russian money in western banks? Did anyone thought that was a bait? Just to show the rest of the world western banks are not reliable, while western property in Russia is worth more than that, so they can nationalize that easy.
  • Gas and oil. Europe needs to pay for that in Russian rubles. Period. No more dollar, no more euro. Bulgarian NATO government said they wont pay gas in rubles. And next morning they did pay in rubles. Whats the best way to get rid of the all NATO bases all over? Bankrupt their economies. Well, Jenn Psaki said their goal is to destroy Russian economy. What if this whole business destroys Euro and US dollar? Both currencies were used for trade of Russian oil and gas. Now, everyone needs to buy Russian rubles, what are fixed value in gold. Basically, Germany needs to pay for the gas in gold. And they alone are spending some 400 million of Euros per day for the gas. That much gold is a lot. No more printed funny-money. Pure gold. Otherwise they going to freeze.
  • Biden tried to ask Saudi Arabia to up the oil production. No one wanted to take his phone call. Bin Zaed too didnt want to take Bidens call. Biden ASKED Maduro (inspite US don’t call Maduro president, they call Guaido president, but when it comes to beg for oil, US has to beg Maduro) to raise oil production, and was turned down. Easy. Russia and China own Venezuela oil.
  • I forsee Russia takes everything east of Dnepr, forms independent states. Poland takes Lavov, Romania and Slovakia and Hungary takes their land what Stalin took from them to give to Ukraine. Romania and Bulgaria need to leave NATO, Hungary is going to leave NATO and EU on their own.
  • Above mentioned shows that no one of us is able to fully understand whats actually going on, but when they are done, world will be better place.

Whats new? Everything you wrote one could see on CNN, or every other mainstream media. Do you trust them? Do you trust in Christiana Amanpur and her mercenaries?

Infrastructure Russians did smash is located in western Ukr, but it isn’t Ukrainian. That infrastructure belonged to someone else, who paid for it, who built it over the last 8 years and who is so pissed off because Russians destroyed it, while no one can do anything about that, except brainwash over the media. That’s why it hurts so much. While for instance Alepo in Syria, level of destruction far beyond that – western media did not even mention.

You sure that Russia can not deploy more soldiers if needed? Remember, they did deploy just enough soldiers to chase Napoleon to the Paris and Hitler to the Berlin. Angela Merkels grandma had 3 golden bathrooms in her Berlin residence, and she still defecated in the middle of her living room when Russians got into Berlin. Why do you think nowadays they could not reach further then the Kiyev, located in their backyard?

You truly think that Russians so stupid to get caught on camera by GERMANS while killing civilians?

You also truly believe Russians “lost tens of thousands of troops” or you just repeating what is all over the CNN? If you didn’t know, there is a thing called war propaganda. Those inflated numbers are used just to encourage UkrNAZIS to fight until last Ukr civilian is killed. Russia is there to denazify and demilitarize Ukr. That’s what one gets when disregard what Russians were asking and appealing for number of years.

A few following words could help you to understand better the substance of the matter. Ukr is artificial conglomerate made by Lenin after 1917, as administrative region. Its name means region. Very similar to Americas name. Its not related to its principal/aboriginal peoples. Stalin gave it some lands taken from Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Crimea taken from Russia. Its nation is composed of a fore mentioned peoples, and some leftovers from the Khazars (spread all over), with the majority of ethnic and genetic Russians. The matter of the name of the language is political, while grammatically, Ukr speak Russian language, with the local very mild dialect.

Language is a measurement for the people. (don’t get it confused with the nation). Ukr identity as a such was maybe developing over the last 100 years, as one can teach a donkey to believe it’s a horse. But its not. As an artificial creation, Ukr has its own expiration date, as every other artificial country. Look at the Soviet Union, Czecho-Slovakia, Yugoslavia, Belgium, etc. So, you must agree that if you want to change the name of the city, not everyone needs to agree with you, because some of those cities are older than some entire civilizations. And its plain stupid to change the names of the cities and languages 1000’s of years old, just to comply with a daily political agendas.

Last 8 years some western powers used UKr to **** off Russians and to sneak into their backyard, and we all see how it all ended. Romania and Bulgaria should prepare to leave NATO, as per Russian ultimatum. I just hope that Finland and Sweden will be smart enough to resist the pressure to join the NATO.

Good luck to everyone in Europe with transitioning away from Russian gas. You don’t understand that era of printed money is gone for good. Only tangible products count since a few weeks ago. You could see that whenever you buy gas on your local station, but you can always choose to believe CNN rather than your own eyes or a good old trustworthy Buck Turgidson.

Farmland is crucial for every country, but Russia has more than enough of that, they didn’t need Ukr, and they don’t want Ukr land or resources. Years of embargo made Russia to start to produce its own. And i believe they can live without all that crap we are used to consume unconditionally.

Russians don’t do much of state run propaganda. They are too clumsy for that, lo-skilled in that and they obviously don’t need that. Because they are winning on the ground, regarless what CNN spits and barks on them. Zaharova is the only person coming up with some comments, the all others just state the facts. Someone here used infantile remarks on her looks (“Bagdhad Bob after the sex change surgery”). I would be so curious to see the looks of his mother, wife, sister and daughter, just to compare their looks to the looks of Zaharova.

When you mentioned refugees, I am so sorry for the true refugees and their forever changed/ruined lives. But don’t get confused about "refugees" and the real refugees. Most of those who fled Ukr so far, did that in Mercedes and BMW models you can only dream about. They are mostly families of the UkrNAZI officers and rich corrupted state officials with the good ties to the west. They all bought properties all over the Europe or are settled in the Bulgarian hotels on the Black sea, where they get PAID 600 EURO monthly, while Bulgarians work for 150E/mo. Good number of those “refugees” ended up in Israel, where they got their new passports done in the no time, due to being Khazars.

Many thanks for your good write-up about the tanks. If you were looking, you could see that the World is not uni-polar any more. And that is far better for the all of us, common people. Also think on what I told you whenever you visit gas station, since you buy Russian gas from Venezuela paid in (rubles) = pure gold, and therefore you finance Russia.

For the OP and all of you who could be interested: Russian cruiser did sink today.
Ukr claims they hit it 2 missiles Neptune.
Russians claim fire onboard spread to the ammo, caused damage. Crew evacuated, ship was in tow, while it capsized and sank.
Maybe this is the point Russians have to change their tactics and take this more seriously.

Before everyone gets their panties in a wad consider this...
Our main (if only) source of news is far from reliable. As such, be extremely careful what you believe to be factual.
The obvious is... for the past several decades Ukraine has barely been able to feed themselves.
Yet we are expected to believe they can go head to head with one of the worlds strongest militaries... and be winning? BS!
False flag? Distraction perhaps?
How is it that we previously got 3% of our oil from Russia but that pump prices have more than doubled? Note that the price increase started PRIOR to any sanctions and PRIOR to any disruption in supply.
Get ready for WW3! Ukraine is nothing... Russia is in defense mode as they don't want NATO on their doorstep. THAT is what this is over!
With the world against Russia, they will be forced to accept aid from China. With the U.S. supplying Ukraine with weapons, funding & technology, WE become a target! Which is precisely what China wants.
Is it coincidence that our economy went down the toilet overnight, gun control & open borders a top priority? And to top it off... depletion of The Strategic Oil Reserve merely to reduce gas pump prices by a few cents, for a few weeks. It's called "the strategic reserve" for a reason!
Oh and another "coincidence"... We The People are completely fed up with this BS just before the mid-term elections. Those in power know what will happen if the elections actually take place.
Keep your powder dry.

When spent 30 seconds of reading about Stalin, one must found that Stalin was not a Russian, but a Georgian. So, one who claims that he knows ENOUGH about history, might ask for money back from whoever did teach him a history.

Stalin did not afraid of anything, aside of the God. When NAZIS captured his son, a captain in the Red Army, during the WWII, they offered to exchange his son for some captured German general. And Stalin said he does not exchange the captain for the general.

Genocide is a word you used way wrong. Genocide is something else of what you think.

If you did your history readings further, you would have found that the USSR back then was run not by the Russians, but by the so-called jews. And I was not able to understand how come so many so-called jews in that part of the world? That’s because they hide what they are so well. They are actually blood-thirsty Khazars.

Also, just remember that without the Stalin, we would be speaking German now, instead of using our languages. I said speaking, not writing, because the NAZI plan was to enslave all of us, use us for a manual labor, and teach us writing just enough to be able to sign our name, and count to 100. Russians know very well that they lost 40-60 million of people in the big wars, and wont let that happen again, no matter what.

Anyway, the point is that nothing is like it looks like, or what they did teach you (or me). To find the truth one has to look for it on its own. It doesnt come ready available off the shelf ready to go.
