I'm in Naples,get up at 2-3 a.m.
Outside haveing my coffee and cig every morning early. Not unusual to see 2-3 every morning.High overhead, just a quick streak out of the corner of my eye,1/2 second at most.
Saw this one very low on the horizon, just above the treetops,s s/e of me.Very big and bright, lasted a good4-5 seconds, don't know if it burned out or just went out of sight.
By far the best biggest longest I've seen in 5 years.

Sometimes I can see the night rocket launches from here also.

I don't have an answer for you, but I did see a meteor flash about a decade ago.

I didn't actually see the meteor itself as it passed over head. There was a flash that lit up the night at ground level just the same as a very bright lightening strike does. In fact, I thought there was a lightening strike nearby, but the stars were out and no thunder. I learned later on the local news that it was a meteor, and that it made landfall about 300 miles from where I was.
