I would be concerned about how deep underground you were going to bury it and whether you were going to do any structural supporting of the roof. If you were concerned about fallout you'd need to pile an awful lot of dirt or other material on top of the container to protect from fallout/radiation. I'm not sure I'd trust aluminum to stand up to the weight. Otherwise I think its a good idea, should I ever win the lottery my plan would be to get one or two of these http://www.containerwest.com/files/basic-products.php in the 40ft length.

Jackposts and 4x4 or 6x6 every 10 feet and I think it would hold a couple of feet of dirt overhead.

If you do go for it, let us know how the project comes along.

4 feet down (frost line) here the ground stays around 40 f id rather heat my house from 40 deg to 70 deg. especialy if you are getting wood by hand, than heat it from minus 40 to 70 deg. and its cooler in the summer remember might be no ac either.i dont know how many of you have done cord piles of wood ,we cut 8 ft wood with a chainsaw piled it in piles by hand then it was picked up by loader and put on a truck. 5 dollars a cord not easy money.and belive me if you can burry your bol house and heat it with 2 or 3 cords its better than cutting 5/6 cords or more

These aluminum Van bodies that are pulled by semi's are not designed to be put underground. I do suggest if you're going to bury one get what they call a sea box, these boxes or constructed of corrugated steel. Structurally you will need to reinforce the roof area to prevent collapse. You'll also need to coat the Van bodies outsides was something to be a rust inhibitor. Also you would need to raise it just a little bit off of the ground to allow for drainage depending on where you live. After you've done this, you need to allow for ventilation to prevent mold. I believe that these type of boxes would be suitable for storage needs only. Just my two cents:D:
