The FR7800B is based off of the regular consumer 7800 series FFR (full face respirator) and is made in Japan with a butyl rubber face seal. The 7800S has a silicone face seal. I assume the FRM40 is made in the USA but it has a silicon face seal for added comfort but reduced durability. You can buy an optional butyl rubber second skin for the entire mask however. Both can be hooked up to a 3M PAPR with 40mm to bayonet adapters. 3M has a nifty 'Y' breathing tube in both length adjusting and high durability (neoprene rubber) versions. As with all 3M items they are expensive but high quality. I'm leaning towards the 7800S as I like the wider field of view and you can put a can in the center for better weight dist. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I have a 3M FX FFR and it is extremely comfortable so I'm not sure how uncomfortable the butyl rubber face seal would be in comparison to silicone.

FRM40:

The M-40 Full Facepiece has been used for years by U.S. Armed Forces all around the world. This facepiece has been NIOSH-approved with the 3M™ Cartridge FR-C2A1 or 3M™ Cartridge FR-64 for acid gases (including chlorine), CN, CS, and P100 particulate filter. The FR-C2A1 cartridge meets military specifications MIL-C-51560 and EA-C-1704. The FR-M40 full facepiece respirator has the capability to mount a single FR-C2A1 DIN threaded cartridge on either the right or left side.

Comes with several unique design features suited for first responders. The silicone allows for excellent fit testing results and maximum comfort while the optional butyl rubber second skin protects the facepiece increasing respirator life and decreasing decontamination costs. A butyl coated nylon hood covers the head and neck and is easily donned to add additional protection against chemical agents and meets MIL-SPEC-C-51251. An integral drinking device permits the user to replenish fluids without having to remove the mask. A dual eyepiece format permits the respirator to easily interface with optics and to fold for storage. FR-M40 accessories include: clear and gray eyepiece outserts, spectacle kit, and buytl rubber Second Skin. The FR-M40 fits into a storage bag/carrying pouch with strap.

Here's the 7800S 'civilian' version showcasing its versatility. Maybe corrosive chemical weapons are rare and I should just go with one of these. Another plus is that 3M sells an optional clip-on welding attachment for the 7800 series.

I have a 3M FF-40x full face elastomeric mask and it's great. I don't know what the last number is for the mask, so I put in an "X." It is the medium mask. I also have at least 30 more sets of P-100 pink filters too.

When COVID took off, I wore the mask to the hospital for my DRs appointments. The appointments lasted around an hor or two, and the mask was comfortable for the period of time.

I used the filters for around 4 to 6 wearings, spread out over 2.5 months, and then would change them. I cleaned the clear portion of the mask with Windex+bleach, and the elastomeric with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

Great mask. No issues.

I have a Honeywell North 7600 series with spare filters. However, the filters are long past their expiration date. I'm thinking that they're still useable but just not 100% affective for the really bad stuff. The replacement filters are pretty pricy. Also, I have a very full beard so it will be of little use to me unless I shave first.
