'Ole Mayor Bloomberg is back at it again ... trying to push for national gun control following a failure to deal with crime in his useless city.

Bloomberg said the problem is "too many guns on the streets of this city."

He said New York has some of the toughest gun laws in the country, "but because it's so easy to buy guns in other states and just drive them in and sell them in the back of your car ... we've got to do something about it. This just can't go on."

It's time we stop allowing these stories to go unanswered. We need to put out out own perspective:

That's 31 people forbidden by their own government from defending themselves! They are owed an explanation! Until the government will take the responsibility of protecting it's citizens (which they will never do), it is CRIMINAL to forbid them the tools to protect themselves!

From my point of view they are working just great.

By providing a nice barrel full of defenseless fish for the criminals to cull they keep the riffraff in the cities. I'm OK with that.

Not saying I understand why they do it, but I'm thankful they are looking out for rural folk like that.

YMMV,
Chad

Sounds like Mayor Bloomberg needs to try establishing roadblocks to prevent his serfs from leaving or entering the city. When that fails to produce the desired result, new york city could review the US constitution, and maybe consider establishing laws that arent so far removed from this antiquated document.

While I know there are conservatives and preppers in NY STATE and NYC. But taken has a whole! Oh frieking well there is to high a probability that they where gang-banging boom boom supporters or progressive commies for me to really shed a tear! Where were NYC finest to protect and serve them?

Hmmmm...I live within an hour of New York City and every other person here I know owns firearms - in many cases, lots of firearms. The violent crime-rate
in my area is extremely low. Something in Bloomberg's "calculations" must be wrong. ;)

Seems to me it's lots of SOMETHING that is the real problem...but it isn't guns!!

Solution:

1) 1 strike laws. You're found guilty of first degree murder or murder for personal gain or even a random "drive by" you get the death penalty without the possibility of appeal or parole.

2) Every law abiding citizen is encouraged to own self defense and receives free safety and use lessons.

The fact that New York's crime rate is on the rise proves that gun control doesn't work. If a violent animal can't kill you with a gun he will kill you with a sharp stick or a jagged rock. If he wants you dead he'll find a way to do it.

Gun control isn't the answer. Stiffer penalties for those who commit violent acts is the first step in reducing crime. Stop slapping the wrists of violent offenders and stop releasing them onto the streets time and again. Arming the honest, law abiding citizenry is the second step. Taping Bloomberg's liberal mouth shut would be a bit help as well.

"Gun violence" is not about guns, it's about violence. Yes, the relatively easy access to guns does allow criminals to obtain them easier than in other countries-that already had low gun ownership rates. The problem is, criminals already operate outside the law. Felons aren't allowed to own firearms yet many people convicted for violent offenses (with firearms) are repeat offenders.

The problem has nothing to do with guns. Look at our CRIME rates compared to other countries. Look at our prison population. Crime in America is destructive and expensive. The drug war is certainly a major part of this, and I feel we need to change our strategy there in an effort to reduce crime and the out of control prison population. After that, we need to go after street gangs the way went after the Mafia.

The threat to private citizens alone (not counting the 2nd Amendment) is enough to justify private gun ownership.

But it’s illegal to carry concealed guns in NY. NY has strict gun laws to PROTECT its citizens! How is this even possible to have people getting shot, when they have such strict laws and mayor Blooming-idiot in place for there safety! And then all the carpet baggers our infiltrating my wonderful state and trying to impose there insanity on us. We need to end all of this liberalism once and for all and take our damn country back!!!!

There are entirely too many guns running wild in the streets. We simply must ban them.
:xeye:

Maybe.... New York should make it double-extra-super-turbo charged- illegal for criminals to own firearms. Yep, that would fix it. The laws just aren't tough enough... maybe even make it triple-illegal!
Liberal logic gives me a headache.

If serious crime had serious consequences then yes there would be less serious crime. It wasn't that long ago that robbery, rape, armed burglary were death penalty offenses in this country. Now they are probation offenses. We have become too soft and permissive as a society and it is a problem.

31 out of 8391881. That's only 0.000004% approximately. By contrast 0.000007% of New Yorkers are struck and killed by cars.

The over all death rate in NY in 2008 was 54,193, or 0.006%. Of those 2008 deaths 523 were murders, or 0.00006%. Of course all those murders weren't committed with guns and the majority of them are going to be from domestic disputes and rest mostly related to drugs and gangs.

Thus, you are more likely to be run over and killed by a car while crossing the street than shot with a firearm in New York, unless you are in a drug gang or your significant other decides to kill you.

These liberal idiots spouting off numbers like "31 people shot" are playing to the ignorant masses. The overall statistics for New York aren't very shocking. But since idiots get to vote too, appeal to the morons has become a popular strategy with both parties.
