Me and the wife walk a couple times a week in the winter and a lot more frequent in warm weather. To the stop sign and back is ~1.1 mi round trip, I think we do it in 25 mins. Both of us have jacked up bodies. We maintain our weight better by staying active. I shovel a little snow, dig a little dirt, and push mow some. Physical fitness is not my strong suit. I envy that ability.

5:07 in Middle school at age 13 or 14. Still hold the record for my school as they switched from the mile to the 1600 meter a year or two after I graduated.

I’m much older and have had the acl in my knee replaced twice since 1992. I can run, but it puts a lot of wear and tear on the knee so it’s rare I run……but when I do I can run fast.

Instead I make walking part of my daily routine doing 5-10 miles daily. Walking on streets my best time is between 12-13 minutes per mile but I normally average 14-16 minutes. Walking trails I average 16-19 minutes a mile.

When I was in Middle School my goal was to run a marathon but it never happened after tearing my acl. I do make it a goal to walk the distance of a Marathon one day every summer though. I normally keep up a 14-17 minute mile an hour pace when i do the Marathon walk.

4:40 at age 20. More than a decade later it’s about 3 minutes slower although I only get out there two or three times a month (not at all during winter) and really have no interest in training. I just want to be able to run to my neighbors house without passing out come a SHTF emergency.
4:40? You an Olympic runner ?

My best time was at 19, when I was running a lot, being in a tactical profession. I did a 6:30 over uneven terrain, weight 120, and this with my stubby little 28” inseem legs. I was never really trying for times at that point though.

My problem is that I hate running with a passion. I’ll ruck march all day at any weight (my last USFS pack test I did the 3 miles/45lb pack in 36 minutes), I just dislike running. So my last USAF fitness test I did the 1.5 mile run in 12:10.

I am currently recovering from a triple-whammy broken rib/hip and sprained hip flexor combo, but yesterday I did a 10lb ruck up 200 feet over 1/3 mile in under ten minutes, which I’m pretty happy about. It’s the little things.

I think it's important as a prepper to be as physically fit as possible. I also think it's important to be competitive as it brings out the best in us. So with that in mind I want to post your best 1 mile time what age and what weight you were when you ran it.

29 years old 225lbs 6:30 seconds

Would love to run a sub 6 one day not sure if it's possible but I'm better for trying !
I used to be able to run 6:30 miles. Lets see, my last PT test in the service was when I was 31. Sub 10 minute 1.5 miles. I was about 175-180lbs.

Always had to run faster than the skinny guys because of my waist. Always maxed out pushups, sit-ups, but because I was "fat", I always had to make up points on my run.

Complete nonsense. You got 120 pound dudes who can barely lift a jug of water and finish their run in 20 minutes who are "in better shape" than someone who can bench 220 and AND run for both endurance and speed; while at the same eating like it.

66 in 6 days weight 270 or so. I can do a mile in just a couple of hours. Neurapaty in both lower legs. Never was a runner anyway. But I can do a mile in my truck in just one minute. 60 MPH is a mile per minute. I can do that all day long. Pushups? Are those those ice cream thingy's with a stick in the bottom you shove up and eat? I love those things. The only way I'm gonna run is if you chase me with a butcher knife.

Nice thats a solid bench. My best is 350lbs.
I just got to where I can do 100 pushups in a row this year after 10 years of training. It probably my best physical feat. I train now for functional strength and endurance. The world is a crazy place I am always ready to throwdown though.
Clarification, I misspoke. Talked to one of my college buds. He reminded me that i ran 6:57 beating the 7 minute limit. Still not bad but niot sub 6. Sorry about that.

I do a 3 mile run each day I'm at home, which takes me about 20 minutes. I don't time a one mile run. I'm just about 58 years old (in six weeks), 5'4" and last time I went to the doctor I was 131 lbs.
You little guys have a major advantage over us bigger boys. We're not designed for that type of activity. I've adapted weight training to be more aerobic meaning shorter rest between sets . Dumbells are more effective for stricter movements. The tough part about over 50 weight training are the recovery periods. I used to do a 4 day split when I was younger but my joints can't take that kind of beating anymore.
