I am conducting my own research on this, but is there a way to mount a decent scope to this gun, without altering the receiver?

I do not wish to deface nor to modify the basic gun.

Thanx!

There are no-gunsmith mounts for near any military rifle.
As a rule they seem to be rube goldberg outfits.
On a bolt gun the bolt handle isnt bent to clear a scope so you have to mount it too high

there is no provision for a scope mount so you end up attaching it with clamps and screws in the rear site base, or some darn thing.

An '03 is a tough rifle that you can throw down the hill without hurting it.
Put a scope on it and now its delicate.

Now that i tried to put a scope on a half dozen mililary rifles i say dont do it.

Let the 1903 be what it is. If you want / need a scoped rifle then buy a sporter. Possibly a 98 mauser that someone sporterized...pawnshops etc have them pretty cheap coz they arent that popular.

original condition 03a3's are getting scarce and gaining in value, if yours is unaltered by all means leave it that way and find yourself a beater to scope if the irons are not to your likeing or you want to see better at extended ranges:thumb:.........

I was unaware that these guns were becoming scarce.

Dad had given it to me [I'm pretty certain that there are not too many daughters who receive combat rifles from their fathers] some time ago, but I have not fired the weapon as of yet [I am a handgunner].

I do not wish to fire too many rounds through the gun, but I do need to sight-in the weapon.

You wont wear it out shooting it, but its good to handle / shoot it enough for familiarization and sighting in.

I think that a Marlin .30-30, (cowboy assault rifle) with a scope if you like is generally a more useful, certainly lighter weight rifle to carry and use. Lots of them around at a good price.
