Could it be useful to store the Sawyer Squeeze, Sawyer Mini and Sawyer Micro with salt water in it, to prevent mold growth?
To me, it sounds like a good idea. The salt water could also prevent the filter from freezing. And a little dry salt is a light weight to carry.
Could this procedure...
How well does a LifeStraw filter water? Someone on youtube ran dirty water through a LifeStraw to find out.
The end result was surprising as I was expecting "something" to slip through the filter. When it comes to stockpiling low cost water filters the LifeStraw seems the way to go.
The Sawyer PointONE is my new favorite water filter. Depending on water conditions, it can filter up to one millions gallons, and the flow rate beats the Sawyer Mini water filter hands down.
However wonderful the Sawyer PointONE water filter is, the user still has to either fill up a bag or...
Surely everyone has heard of a LifeStraw? It is a simple tube that is a water filter. Place the inlet into the water, then suck the water through the tube. Seems simple enough right? Almost too good to be true?
If something seems to god to be true it usually is, except for the LifeStraw.
I decided to get a new filter, and it was the Sawyer PointONE. There are some youtube videos showing the Pointone with a bladder and how it can work with gravity, so I decided to try it.

A hose and clip were taken off my Katadyn filter...
Seeking a home base water filter.
Obviously, water could be boiled...
I have a family size Lifestraw filter (it's now some years old). Looking at the newer brand called "Survival" filter instead.
I see Berkey, etc being discussed for years.
Best item for Home?
Or handmade filter?
I am working on a concept of turning a Sawyer point one water filter into a group based water filter.
Here on the property I have a clear running stream. The stream has a sandy bottom, about 20 feet wide, 6 inches deep and flows year round.
The idea goes like this:
Dirty water bag
There is much talk about water filters for SHTF usage where Swayer and the like come up, but a friend of mine and I have a question that I was unable to locate and answer to on the webs.
How useful after SHTF would the Brita water filters that you can buy for tap water now? Do they clean as...
I am looking for something like a MSR dromedary water bag, but where I can connect an MSR mini or MSR squeeze. Something that I can scoop up 2 or 3 liters of water at one time, hang it from a tree, and filter water as I need it.
This would replace the MSR squeeze bags. Instead of doing 32...
I have a Katadyn Vario that has leaked from day one. It leaks where the head attaches to the body.
Looking at the filter, exactly how is the water supposed to go from the ceramic pre-filter to the main filter? The top of the main filter only has like 1/16 inch around it that water can cycle...
Using hand held water filters, do you feel there is a need for a second level of purification.
Filter - bacteria, cyst and protozoa.
Purification - viruses, bacteria, cyst and protozoa.
From the 1980s until just a few years ago, if there was any doubt about the water I would...
What is a good water filter upgrade from the katadyn hiker?
Was out on a hiking trip today doing some videos and taking pictures for reviews. Stopped for lunch next to a creek. Got out my katadyn hiker and was filtering water from a creek. I thought to myself, there must be something faster...
...however I got a great deal on cases of MREs. So I'm set for a few months with food. What can I do to stock up for a few months on water? Should I just rotate out 5 gallon jugs? I rent, so big filtartion systems aren't much of an option. I'd prefer a BPA free way to store. Any ideas?
This post is to show how easy it is to install a heavy duty water filter under the kitchen sink to provide clean drinking water.
Note that my kitchen is still under construction and that is why the wall and counter look the way they do!
The goals of this project are to provide a high-flow...
Found the answer online. Apparently copper will not stop bacteria in wet environments.
"The difference between dry and wet surfaces, such as copper pipes, is that only dry surfaces are inhospitable environments for bacterial growth. Bacteria can easily grow and reproduce in wet environments...

I moved to Juneau, Alaska in 2006 and instantly loved it for many reasons. The constant fresh air, the attitudes and work ethic of the locals, especially the ones who had grown up to full maturity there, and THE FRESH WATER.
I lived in the Mendenhall valley and the water, as many know, is...
I've been looking into water purification tablets as an emergency back up method for making water safe to drink. And it seems to me that there are 3 types of water purification tablets: Iodine, chlorine, and chlorine dioxide.
And it sounds like from my research that the iodine are the worst...
A few months ago my 2 year old grand daughter pulled on the factory plastic berkey spigot. Something cracked or broke because the spigot started leaking where it connected to the Royal Berkey housing.
While looking for a replacement I decided I did not want to go back with the factory spigot...
