I decided to get a new filter, and it was the Sawyer PointONE. There are some youtube videos showing the Pointone with a bladder and how it can work with gravity, so I decided to try it.

I am working on a concept of turning a Sawyer point one water filter into a group based water filter.
Here on the property I have a clear running stream. The stream has a sandy bottom, about 20 feet wide, 6 inches deep and flows year round.
The idea goes like this:
Dirty water bag
Clear...
...however I got a great deal on cases of MREs. So I'm set for a few months with food. What can I do to stock up for a few months on water? Should I just rotate out 5 gallon jugs? I rent, so big filtartion systems aren't much of an option. I'd prefer a BPA free way to store. Any ideas?

I've been looking into water purification tablets as an emergency back up method for making water safe to drink. And it seems to me that there are 3 types of water purification tablets: Iodine, chlorine, and chlorine dioxide.
And it sounds like from my research that the iodine are the worst...
A few months ago my 2 year old grand daughter pulled on the factory plastic berkey spigot. Something cracked or broke because the spigot started leaking where it connected to the Royal Berkey housing.
While looking for a replacement I decided I did not want to go back with the factory spigot...
Hey guys,
Thanks in advance. I'm looking at the Katadyn Expedition to start with. Just because it seems to be the biggest volume I've found. Other threads I have read say that one system won't be all I need. So a partner to this one? I do realize that filtration is not purification. There...
Can anyone comment on the Berkey brand of water filters? I am considering the Big Berkey, but it is expensive. What do you suggest for alternatives?
Thanks,
Randle
Should I prime my system now or wait for a disaster, to prime it?
Will it hurt test the filter now?
Is there a shelf life on a primed filter?
Any help would be really appreciated.:)
I am coinsidering a backup purifier & have looked at the 4 liter complete system (SP-194)......any recommendations? I do want one that gets out viruses and is capable of just 2-5 gallons a day.....suggestions....thanks
I'm new to these forums - I hope someone here can shed some light on this for me.
I picked up a manual salt water filter at a garage sale a few weeks ago. Its a PUR brand product that is made to allow you to drink seawater once its run through the device. Does anyone have any experience with...
Howdy y'all,
I'm new to prepping. I've spent much of the last month researching, reading, thinking, etc., on my prepping strategy. Foodwise I should be ok ... I live just a few miles from a LDS cannery that is open to the public on Wednesdays (I called to verify)... and the prices are very...
Thought this was cool. Worth the look

Just remember that drinking RO water is not good for you and you need to add minerals and electrolytes.
As the title states, does a water filter exist that can filter water straight from a stream or pond and be safe to drink? If so, what would be the best and most reliable one? Or would purification tablets be the best way to go?
I live in California and just ordered a big berkey water filter, then recieve an email stating that big berkeys cannot be shipped to california due to a lead free law. how freakin ridiculous is that. It makes me question what california is putting in the water.
I found one of these at the local Goodwill. (It was evidently a demo unit, as it has three holes drilled in the bottom of it.) Anyone have any experience with them? They look like a really good filter system for an off-grid homestead.
I'm gonna patch mine up with some plugs from Home Depot...
Katadyne has a filter which claims about 13,000 gallons (depending on the water quality), Berkeley has filters that many swear by (though they had problems, not sure if they have been solved) and now I recently read on here about Sawyer filters (with backflushing claim they can filter 1 million...
There are 3 basic priorities in prepping plans – food, water and shelter. Some people like to throw in fire, or the ability to make fire. But if you throw in fire, you need to crawl out from under your rock from time to time.
Some things should be a given, such as packing medicines, fire...
Sorry - just found this in another thread, I must have mistyped the search I did before posting.
I just learned about this filter today. It's been in use since 2005, but just began to be sold in US and Canada in July 2011. It looks pretty good. Filters 1000 liters and sells for $19.95, which...
Does anyone know if the below listed ceramic water filter is any good. I already bought two and just wanted to see if they are worth using.
