This is an idea I came up with for an optimal bunker. My idea is elaborate and expensive but some of the concepts could be applied on a smaller scale. I honestly think that in whatever type of scenario having a fully hidden, self sufficient bunker is invaluable. I will outline a few of my ideas...

Just wondering how everyone else treats the outside of their bunker before they bury them in the ground?

Has anyone tried using 40' water/milk tankers as a bunker? I found an old one on CL for $500 delivered. The axles are trashed but the tank holds pressure. Just a thought.

I'm posting this to get ideas for my underground bunker. I am a welder so I have decided to go the steel box route. 1-I will be building it myself. 2- I want it to be 8' tall x 8' wide x 12' long. 3- Will be using 4'x8'x 3/16" sheets. Trying to decide on the reinforcment ribs, either 3"...

OK I am looking for suggestions, designs and ect... I am a poor so I cannot afford all these underground shelters... What I am looking for is a bunker that I can store supplies, and additonally house a couple of people when needed and have an addition for a root cellar. Majority of the time...

This seems like a really bad idea to me. If people want you out of your bunker all they have to do is cut off your air supply. Being undwerground doesn't appeal to me anyway. I am claustrophobic to the max degree.

I was talking on another forum how the bunkers couldn't be opened with a grenade.(regarding the show "Doomsday Bunkers"). However, a cup of gasoline or other noxious chemical would run those people out like smoke in a gopher hole. Sure, those things are cool, but are they practical? The...

Companies that sell above ground, premade, NBC bunker. We have considered some options for "creating" something indoors but in pricing what we could do on our own, I think we would save money (and of course time) with something prefab. Looking for East Coast, small and inexpensive. Thanks...

Hello, unexperienced person here... we had a 6x10x6ft high concrete storm shelter buried in our yard this week. it is covered by about 18-20" of dirt. The concrete is almost a foot thick on all sides and roof. It has a large metal door entrance on top and 2 "whirly birds" for air ventilation...

Has anyone built a small underground home two levels high? 600 square feet would be all I need, but it would be nice to have a lower basement level to store food and my hobby, beer, because they will stay fresher, longer for extended periods of time. I presume drainage issues might be an...

i have seen underground buses before but this one is totally buried. i don't know what would keep someone from driving over it, and i don't think the roof could hold much weight. http://www.wltz.com/story/16618542/school-bus-used sorry if it has been posted before

We are set to break ground on our 12.5 acre BOL that will become our primary home in North Texas in spring 2012. What I envision is a 2 story concrete home with a basement. The only access to the basement would be under a staircase that has a remote hydraulic system that lifts the staircase...

Hey everyone, I'm a total newbie to preparedness but the way things are going I'm starting to prepare for the worst. I've been thinking a lot about bunker building, particularly the amount of air available, and it struck me that you need an awful lot! e.g. in a 1m radius pipe of 4m length, the...

Dig 2 ponds near each other. Set a water tight fiberglass tank of your size and choosing into a dry pond bed, you will need a dirty water pump for this. Once the tank is set, camo the tank with green plastic leaves and stuff and fill the pond. You can either stash stuff or hunker down in...

Let me begin this by stating that I am not paranoid. I don't think anyone is after me and this is on for SHTF situation. Not a burglar. I downloaded some plans for a safe room. It assumed that the room would only be used in cases of protecting yourself from a burglar until the...
