  1. Food and water
So i ordered a plastic 55 gallon drum to store water in and it said on the instructions that it is rated for 200lbs does that mean i should only put 200lbs of water in it? Cause 55 gallons of water would be about 400lbs. Any help would be appreciated

I need to store water. For those of you that use Aqua Tainers, how often do you change out the water? I just want a small amount, not big barrels. I figured a shelf of Dollar Tree jugs for drinking and an aqua tainer or cooking or dishes . Anyone ever taste water from aqua tainer? Does it get...

Each month I have focused on an area and this month is water. I know water should have been first, but it was very intimidating. I live in GA so thankfully we get an adequate amount of rain each year and except for droughts we almost always get a nice shower each 5-10 days. I also live about...

I have filled about 20 gallons of water lately out of tap... I get rural water here in my small town, instead of city water (which rural water is MUCH better). Will that be okay? I store half in the fridge, the other half in a cool location in my home. Should I buy a filter system for my sink...

For long term, up to 5 years? Any other advice on long term water storage? I recently bought the WaterBrick bulk of 10: 3.5 gallons x 10= 35 gallons that are stackable, and also managable. Any advice on water storage is much appreciated. Thank You, God Bless America:thumb:

Hi Guys, This is a very cool forum, lots of knowledge and lots of great ideas, I'm glad I found it. I bought a blue 55gallon water storage drum. I figure it can't hurt to have a bunch of clean water. I'm a little confused about filteration. 1- Since I'll be filling this barrel with tap water...

There seems to be a lot of water storage threads of late along with the typical how long does bottled water last question. I thought I'd create this post to help those with this sort of question think through the problem and in the end answer the questions themselves. First lets focus on water...

Good idea or bad idea? What's the best way to do it? Should I have it tested? I like the idea of storing tap water ultimately because it is FREE!! I am thinking milk jugs thoroughly cleaned because I have three small kids and we drink milk like it's going out of style. Anybody have any...

Reprinted with permission ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How much water is enough? by Tom Sciacca If you like food as much as I do, it’s hard to imagine that our body can actually go weeks without food. It wouldn’t be fun, of course, but it can be done. But without water, our bodies can get into serious...

Okay, maybe this is a stupid question - but would this be a poor way to keep some water around? http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_125701_-1?ICID=CRT:0435-01293-6407 I mean for $200 this thing holds over 3700 gallons of water....

I am storing water in Great Value 3qt apple juice bottles. I wash them out, bleach them, then refil with HOT tap water. before I seal them. I place approx 4-6 drops of bleach in the water. I then place Glad press and seal wrap to eliminate bubbles. I then place the lid on and check to make...

I have now been a member of this site for a week and I have finally decided how I am going to store water for my family and me. I have decided to use used food grade buckets (pickle buckets) form my friend restaurant to store hygiene water and the below 5 gallon buckets from Sportsman’s...

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 55 gallon barrel to add to my current water supply, just had a question for those that already use these. I am using public water that is treated, I have done some research and people still generally add bleach to this type of water for long term storage. My...

I'm just beginning my prepping and don't have a lot of money to buy water barrels and special water containers for storing water. I heard that storing water in milk jugs is not a good idea as they are biodegradable and can leak. What containers would be best and inexpensive to store water in...

I have a source of the 250 gallon water totes/tanks that previously held agave syrup. Any idea how to clean them out, and if they can be used to store drinking water?

I've got about 40 gallons of water that needs to be rotated out (my first rotation since starting to stock). Anything from 6 months to 1 year is going, but I can't just dump it down the drain. What do you guys think would be the best way to use it? It's winter time here now and altho it's been a...

Alright - I've been half-prepping now for about a year now with food reserves and water in gallon containers in the basement. This is mainly because our electricity goes out from time to time and that means the well doesn't run. I'm about 4/5ths the way through Once Second After and it has...

Water storage is potentially dangerous due to chemical leaching! We're all survivalists here. We have supplies waiting to be used when SHTF, or any disaster scenario in general. Well, I just found out that bottled water, whether glass or plastic, is BAD. This runs afoul with my plan to store...
