Does anyone know where I could get some racks to store and rotate canned goods? I'm thinking of the kind that you put the new cans in the top and the older ones rotate out the bottom? Thanks, Whisper

Maybe a silly question but here goes. I have many canned vegetables, sauces and such. I am running out of storage inside the house. If I store these items outside in the shed will they burst from temperatures below freezing but above 0 degrees? Im talking about metal cans by the way not jars. Thanks

I've been reading and lurking around the forum for sometime now but am wanting to start prepping. In fact this weekend I'd like to stop buy the local Save-a-lot or Aldis to start stocking up on canned good items. I know there is a lot more to prepping than just canned good items and I hope to...

I am looking to purchase emergency food items for my family. When doing research on who and what I came accross a company selling buckets that would feed 1 adult for 30 days from that bucket while it seemed like another was selling #10 cans. Wouldn't it be better to open 1 bucket every 30 days...

As 2012 approaches, some of us might be thinking about news years resolutions. Along with the typical lose weight and stop smoking resolutions, I would like everyone to post suggestions related to how prepared you and your family are. Where do you need to make improvements. On top of your own...

With the two oldest children out and gone to college. Their visits are shorter due their schedules. I find the food items that I have stocked up on are not going nearly as fast as they used to. Do I not buy as much or what do I do? I hate to throw any food away if I can help it. I did send some...

As far as my food prepping is concerned, I have developed a strategy of having a little bit of everything. I have some freeze dried food in the mylar nitrogen filled pouched that are "just add water" and I also have an ample supply of #10 freeze dried cans. Something that I just recently got...

Would like to see a personal calendar or some type of rotation logs that each time you log in you will go to your user data and you can put in daily activities (daily preps, new gear, food/mag rotation). From there you can set an alert for yourself (say in 6 months) to get rid of expired stuff...

How do you keep track of what you have? Specifically thinking about food storage and food rotation... Anyone do a monthly meal plan to live off of food storage? How do you know what you have and don't have for your meal plan? Anyone using a meal planning software? Microsoft Excel?

Looked online only plans I could find was turning a small cardboard box into one. If no one else knows of any I will use the cardboard ones for the dimesions of he openings and thats about it. I will be making them out of plywood and some cheap wood paneling to make them look all fancy and such.
  12. Disaster Preparedness General Discussion
Hello Everyone, One of the frequently discussed ideas on this forum is the need to store enough food that will provide for you and your family through difficult times. And although I am a true believer in food storage, I have a difficult time with food rotation. My wife and I do not have...
  13. Urban Survival
Many (most?) of you reading here know that when you stockpile supplies then you should also use what you have, and rotate your supplies so everything stays fresh. Just recently I had a personal experience as to what can happen if this is not followed. A family member of mine had to leave their...

Could someone please recommend where I might find inexpensive can organizing/rotating thingys, like for a typical soup can size, or even the ones that are size adjustable. I have looked online at Bed Bath and Beyond and surprisingly they don't have them. I have seen them online with one of the...

Has anyone tried the THRIVE Q program through Shelf Reliance? (They're a food storage company, the one who makes the big can rotation racks). They also sell a lot of food storage. Freeze dried stuff mostly (as far as I know anyway). Anyway, they have this program where you enter into their...
  16. Food and water
Perhaps I'm a bit off, but aside of some mindset, it seems that I am way off center with much of the communicated intent for long term food storage, or for survival food requirements. Although there is a possibility for the complete breakdown of society, I do not plan for it. I think its way...
  17. Food and water
Many of the people I see talking about food storage basicly just purchase a couple dozen MRE's and throw them in the garage or something, maybe some buy a bucked of beans and rice, and do the same. Personally I prefer food rotation rather than outright storage. Basicly what I do is, for...

I like this idea (and need to point out this is something that I found on Youtube - I did not make this myself, I just wanted to share it because I like it) :

Hi! I am not necessarily believing in TEOTWAKI but figure on 1)layoff 2)rioting or 3)natural disaster as the three events to occur. Keeping these in mind how long should I keep food/fuel/water/medical stocks for? I am debating three days as FEMA directs, two or three weeks, or even three...

I seem to remeber running across some do it yourself plans for building the racks for keeping your canned goods in rotation. You know the load on top and use from the bottm type contraption. The ones I've seen on the net can get expensive. Does anyone have or know where to get these plans...
