While stockpiling survival gear for a long term SHTF / TEOTWAWKI situation, I think it is important to pause, review, and then move forward. It does no good to stockpile the same thing over and over, while overlooking other essential preps. The changing of the seasons, a new year, or every 3 –...

Katadyne has a filter which claims about 13,000 gallons (depending on the water quality), Berkeley has filters that many swear by (though they had problems, not sure if they have been solved) and now I recently read on here about Sawyer filters (with backflushing claim they can filter 1 million...

A couple of weeks ago I was looking at buying an AR15. It came down to either a Spikes, Bravo company, DS Arms, or Danial Defense, all of which are in the $800+ price range. Like a lot of my purchases, I like to put a lot of thought into the situation before I spend the money. While thinking...

I am thinking about buying a SteriPEN Sidewinder. For those of you that do not know what the SteriPEN Sidewinder is, its a hand crank unit that purifies water with UV light. The idea is to run the water through a filter; then use the SteriPEN Sidewinder for purification. The unit has a life...

So after much research and talk with the wife, I finally have a space and some preps started. I have started moving up from my "extra" camping and backpacking stuff laying around, to a real space that we are both enagaged in. We have two children under the age of 5 and our budget is limited at...

Your thoughts on a steripen? How does it work with something that is 2liters or larger, does it clean out the bacteria up to a certain liter? because i am looking into doing a month trip and have a platypus 1 liter that would be hard to fit that thing in and a 2 liter camelpack. anyone that has...

Hi Ya'll. I just purchased a Steripen Adventurer Opti for hiking uses. The new one comes in a kit with a solar charger case so you can recharge the batteries on the move in the outdoors. I would think this would be a great addition to any bugout kit. Any thoughts from you all?

Not often does something wow me. But this looks real promising. A Handcrank liter capacity Steripen. I like the Steripen but always hated the batteries. This is a handcrank unit that does one liter at a time. Crank for 90 seconds. It looks really promising to me. I might re-visit the...

One is a gravity fed filter that filters out most of the usual stuff, giardia et al, and has a 1500 liter capacity on one filter. It doesn't involve pumping, but...
