Is it me or does it seem there is not enough emphasis on winter conditions during SHTF? or teotwawki. no grid. not reliant on guzoline machines. (:mad:max) Thoughts on? Snow removal/plowing while trying to conserve energy. like snow shovels! Security, patrolling your BOL. Guard posts...
  4. Ladies Section
OK, so it's March. My March rant... People that don't know how to drive in snow and ice. They won't go fast enough to have enough forward momentum to make it up a hill, end up skidding, getting stuck, hitting other vehicles, and making other drivers have to stop/slow down... then back down...

It started one night while I was snow blowing the fresh 16 inches of snow that clung tightly to the drooping branches of pines and a few maples within eyeshot. It was a typical Noreaster storm, but we already had a foot + on the ground already. I wondered what if there had been a severe...

So I moved to north eastern pa. The snow here is ridiculous and it's really freaking cold. So I added a few supplies and found the brighter side. I added a set of alpine cross country downhill ski's from Coleman military surplus. The are pretty good had to get used to the cable binding but I...

So I moved from key to ne pa. I am 40 min east of Scranton in a gated community in the Poconos. I was concerned only being two hours from nyc... but my hopes are the impassible roads on winter will deter a large amount of evacuees. Plus how hard it is to find my house in the summer. The people...
  9. Looking For - Want To Buy From Vendors
Is any one aware of a company the produces a woodland camo baclava or face mask that reverses to a winter or white side. All the can find is Woodland/Black, very disappointing.

  11. Vehicles & Transportation
Hey all, i just got me a Dodge Dakota, 4X4 and have questions about chaining it up for winter. My deal is that i want to be able to get up and down some steeper roads in the CO mountains on snow and ice. I know i have to have chains to do this. Chains are a bit spendy and would like to get...

I wanted to get members advice on the best way to pull someone out of a ditch or snow/mud. I've never done it myself, so I wanted some real world experience and what might be the best way to do it. I've watched an old boss pull another truck out of mud, he "snapped" the chains by accelerating...

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones. This from today 21/2/2011 for Qld. The weather is acting strange world wide in comparison to what we normally get. This could simply be a once every 100 years thing, but somehow I...

Although the Northeast got the deep snow and national headlines; the Southwest got record breaking (but non national headline producing) low temperatures. Last I heard locally we'd set new record lows three days in a row. All along the Texas/Mexico border from El Paso/Juárez to Eagle...

I'm sure this topic has been beat to death somewhere in this vast forum. Can anyone school me on the differences between ID and MT and maybe make some recommendations (not city specific) of good survival-type land in these areas? It's my understanding land is cheaper in ID, but I'm sure there...
  16. Manmade and Natural Disasters
Its summer now, but I want to give everyone a heads up for winter. There is such a thing as decreased solar activity with a long absence of sun spots. In spite of the recent flares we appear to be bordering on one of these eras. Its happened before. How would we prep for a mini ice age or at...

My husband got stuck at work because of the ice /snow storm last week. He thought he would be home when he left that morning so he lived out of his BOB for 36 hours. Here's what he learned. 1. Among the extra clothes something comfortable to sleep in makes life so much better. 2. No...

So I originally wrote this for my own site (aksurvival.com) at this link but that doesn't get too much traffic, so thought I'd share here too. ----- The winters in the Fairbanks North Star Borough are long and cold. It's pretty well established that you have to be able to deal with them if...

So yeah, there's this snow storm going on that's kind of huge for Seattle. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/home/index.html Is anyone else here in it? Or at least in Western WA? It's pretty cool. I don't know if this counts as a survival situation though, LOL. We went to the grocery store...

This has been a very strange year. Almost no growing season, and now too much winter and snow - we don't like snow here. Year before last, we had wind storm after wind storm after wind storm in December. This year, we are getting snow after snow after snow and now it's going to get worse this...
